How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master is a game with potential that it failed to fully exploit. There are a lot of good elements here, but it's clear that a lot is missing. Die-hard racing game fans will find it fun, but beginners will simply get bored. Gaming Factory put a lot of heart into this project, but unfortunately it didn't deliver in all aspects.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master is an excellent addition to the PS5 lineup and easily ranks among the platform’s best racing games. It makes smart use of the DualSense’s adaptive triggers to deliver a satisfying simcade experience set across a visually striking world. The drift mechanics are intuitive yet rewarding, allowing newcomers to get up to speed quickly while still offering depth for experienced players. Strong world design, a well-presented narrative, and robust customization options further elevate the experience. Combined with a solid mix of licensed and unlicensed vehicles, JDM: Japanese Drift Master offers hours of engaging racing action and is a must-play for fans of drifting and high-speed competition.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master costs just under 35 euros at launch on Steam, which is a reasonable price for a solid game with an intuitive driving model that lets you race through Japan’s picturesque landscapes in iconic sports cars. At the same time, however, the game still needs some fine-tuning so you can enjoy it to the fullest. Let’s put the hilariously silly story and performance issues aside for now. The most important things will be to add more variety to the individual races, fine-tune the AI, and implement a more sensible car customization system. The developers promise that this is exactly what they plan to do in the coming months. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for them (and for ourselves).

Japanese Drift Master is an enjoyable single‑player experience with a few rough edges. Fans of Japanese car culture and drifting‑focused gameplay will find plenty to enjoy. It may not reach the heights of Need for Speed or Midnight Club, but JDM delivers a stylish and entertaining ride nonetheless.

JDM delivers a stunning racing experience, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of Japanese racing. The game features amazing cars and breathtaking scenery, offers a variety of popular races, and, most notably, presents its story in the style of traditional Japanese manga, giving it a unique feel, along with a diverse cast of characters that add depth to the experience.

Japanese Drift Master captures the essence of drifting through Japan’s scenic streets, which are beautifully modeled after their real-world counterparts. However, technical issues significantly hold it back, leaving room for improvement as outlined in the game’s promising future roadmap.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master is unfortunately a game where ambition overrides skill. Basically: it doesn't work well.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master is not a bad release. Its focus on drifting is something we haven't seen in a long time, especially in a standalone release

DM: Japanese Drift Master does something a lot of indie developers do well, and that invokes nostalgia for the classic games, movies, and yes, manga that inspired it, but it also does something else, and that’s build a racing game that is strong in its own right. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the story, where it draws you in with a familiar plot but then hooks you with the characters and narrative that is right here and right now. The world of Guntama Prefecture is big, bold, and most importantly, beautiful, with every street becoming a new adventure you just raced the right tunes to give it style

JDM: Japanese Drift Master offers an enjoyable and faithful experience true to its identity, with gameplay that brings back memories of classic titles where the pure joy of driving took center stage. It successfully delivers on its promises and stands as a well-executed attempt worth trying for anyone seeking a fun driving experience and a unique atmosphere.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master shines in places like the graphics and the cars themselves. Gaming Factory has put a lot of love into this, and it shows. Especially using Polish musicians to fill up their radio stations. There are some issues, though; the story itself doesn't leave an impact, the difficulty of the AI is inconsistent, and there are some bugs. But it's all about the drifting, and that's where it makes up for it. The driving is fluid, and the NPCs can be quite challenging. However, the cars sound amazing, it really sounds like you're driving a Miata! Fans of Tokyo Drift, Initial D and general drift racing sim fans will have a ball with JDM.
