How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 0% | 15 | 0 |

“The beautiful story takes you on a sizable journey despite the short run time; it had me engrossed and packed a punch on more than one occasion. The choices made at key moments in the game felt meaningful for both Sid’s life as well as my own. Regrettably, the technical limitations hold the game back in a significant way and keep Frostwood Interactive from realising their vision for the game. When these issues are fixed, and I’m sure they will be, I would have no problem increasing the score.”

“Has some appeal for its mix of styles and ideas, but uneven execution and a story that could be hit or miss holds it back”

“Forgotten Fields attempts a heartfelt dual narrative about a struggling writer and his fantasy story but falters due to clunky controls, technical issues, and outdated design. While its warm, introspective tone and soundtrack offer some charm, the gameplay is bogged down by bugs, stiff animation, and lackluster visuals. Despite a decent ending and short runtime, the overall experience struggles to stay immersive or engaging, making it suitable mostly for achievement hunters or the most forgiving narrative game fans.”

“There are a number of technical issues which blight Forgotten Fields but there’s nothing here that couldn’t be addressed over time and with patches. The core of the game, featuring a very human and relatable story mirrored in a literary fantasy one, shines bright enough that those who can forgive a few glitches will find something unique and interesting here.”

“Forgotten Fields is a very charming, warm game that I highly recommend. If you’re looking for an inspiring, emotional, and heart-warming story with personality-filled characters and humorous writing, it’s here in spades. The minimalist but stylised graphics are very appealing, though the character models do need some improvement and some idle animations would be appreciated. The gameplay has some fun quirks but is quite simple overall, with some intuitive issues such as getting stuck on terrain, but those are very easily overlooked. I, personally, am now considering picking up Frostwood’s first release, Rainswept, as I enjoyed Forgotten Fields so thoroughly. It’s also nice to support an independent creator who clearly has a passion for well-written narratives and emotionally-driven themes.”

“Forgotten Fields is a flawed, sometimes frustrating experience, but its best moments are authentic and relatable enough to still make the journey worthwhile.”

“Forgotten Fields is a beautiful game that tells a heartwarming and painfully relatable narrative. While its gameplay can be shallow, and there were numerous visual bugs, Forgotten Fields' narrative is so strong and meaningful that I could overlook its various shortcomings.”

“Though it’s not a bad game, Forgotten Fields is hampered by more than a handful of technical issues. Prepare to glitch through furniture and objects as you try and make your way around this otherwise beautiful world. It’s a shame, because there are more than a few truly lovely moments, and you’ll likely find yourself relating to the game’s cast of characters. Perhaps wait until its bugs have been addressed, because there’s a good story to be experienced here.”

“A game for relaxation and reflection. If you enjoy slice of life narrative games or visual novels, give this one a shot!”

“Forgotten Fields, at first glance, is intriguing, meaningful, and deep. And maybe it is, it certainly has its beautiful moments that make you yearn for tropical beaches. But stunning cinematics and dazzling soundtracks can only carry a game so far, especially when movement sticks, cameras are broken, and gameplay itself just feels overall unfinished. Forgotten Fields is done, it’s playable, but I would love to see a lot more work before I can truly recommend this narrative game about narratives. It’s a story worth telling, but until some issues are addressed, I sadly can’t say for sure it’s worth playing.”

“Forgotten Fields is a great feelgood game for rainy days - or all days, to be precise.”
