How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

We Were Here Forever is the best in the series yet. At double the length, it brings all the crazy puzzles that the series has become known for, just bigger and better.

We Were Here Forever is an excellent example of how cooperative two-player games should be made. Great puzzles combined with an exciting environment that won't get tired, amazing graphics, and a significant audio component. More of a shame is the terrible optimization and weaker story, which this time the authors try to push more to the forefront than in previous installments.

Gaz and I have known each other for decades and have played a lot of puzzlers together over the years, but we both agreed that We Were Here Forever stood out as one of our most enjoyable experiences. The creepy fantasy theme is delivered in a great visual style and hammered home by some phenomenal voice acting, and each cut-scene dragged us deeper into the lore and kept us invested in what we were doing. The puzzles are well designed (for the most part) and require enough thought to be challenging without causing frustration that disconnects you from the game. Yes, some voice chat problems and a couple of broken puzzles did cause annoyance, but that wasn’t enough to turn us off from a fantastic experience, We Were Here Forever is an absolute must for puzzle and escape room fans alike.

Despite a complete lack of competition, Total Mayhem Games delivers a successful and satisfying sequel to the We Were Here series. It's worth a try for all fans of the genre, no matter how alien the idea of an online co-op adventure game may seem to them.

We Were Here Forever gives no quarter in its cooperative puzzling, fully trusting players to get on with it and work together. At its peak, the wondrous structure of this game is simply sublime, and perhaps the most invested I've felt in a co-op game since Portal 2. It doesn't always hit those highs, and matchmaking was personally hit and miss, but We Were Here Forever generally dazzles.

Transitory issues aside, We Were Here Forever is, at least at the time of writing, my favourite game of the year thus far. At times it frustrated, but all that did was make the completion of its various brain teasers all the more satisfying. The mark of a truly fantastic game is one that aligns all its elements around a central purpose or goal. In this title, everything orbits around testing the skill of its participants, and that makes for a truly memorable experience for its pairs of players.

A good game that suffers from a few balancing issues in places and some frustration bugs. Nonetheless, still a solid and fun co-op experience.

We Were Here Forever certainly grew on us the more we played, with some great brain-teasing puzzles that really make the most of the split player perspectives (though we did give up on the walkie-talkies).

We Were Here Forever does exactly what its previous three predecessors have done: immerse you in complex puzzles and lots of communication. Together with someone else you have to unravel the secrets of Castle Rock. We Were Here Forever looks better and this time crossplay is also possible. The puzzles are challenging again and working together has never been more fun and frustrating at the same time. Some hiccups here and there and a somewhat negligible story. Still, you will mainly play We Were Here Forever for the challenge.

We Were Here Forever has some good ideas but stumbles into unbalanced puzzles that leave one player standing around and sounding like Darth Vader in their walkie-talkie.
