How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 75 | 88 |
| Creator reviews (2 tracked) | – | 40 | 2 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 72% | 68 | 1140 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 57 | 74 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 79% | 73 | 864 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Darktide looks great, sounds fantastic, and even with all my complaining… I've spent 53 hours playing it. 53 hours of the kind of fun that no other game this year gave me. And I'm sure that in six months, or a year, Darktide will be a game that will deserve a much higher rating.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has a solid foundation that just needs more built atop it. Slaughtering legions of Chaos freaks is fun for a while, and the in-game chatter between characters is surprisingly funny to the point I was invested far more than I otherwise would’ve been. Sadly, the unbalanced classes and poorly paced missions, plus a complete lack of incentive to play after hitting the level cap stop it short of what one wants from a horde shooter.”

“Darktide is easily the best first-person experience of all Warhammer 40,000 games.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is fantastic. Since I reviewed the game less than six months after its release, most of the issues had been ironed out, and aside from a few minor technical glitches that really got on my nerves, I didn’t encounter any problems. Amazing combat, great visuals, perfect audio, balanced hero stats, and solid character progression. Everyone is bound to enjoy this, even if it doesn’t get a perfect score, since there are a few flaws to be found in the game.”

“The developers should be yelled at for giving us an Early Access game disguised as a full release, but their fans are used to it. I have no doubt that, over time, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will get new content, fixed bugs and an overall boost in quality.”

“[Warhammer 40K Darktide] is clearly 2022's best feel-good multiplayer group game with dark humour, carnage, and accents aplenty, evolving from Vermintide in all the right and satisfying ways.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a solid co-op shooter that brings the Grimdark universe to life, Fatshark has learned from Vermintide and delivered an atmospherically dense, technically competent experience where the DualSense implementation stands out as one of the best in the genre.”

“At the end of the day, Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a thoroughly enjoyable experience (especially when you can run it).”

“Enjoyably frantic, and gory, Darktide is gratifying to play, but the experience is softened by performance issues and dreadful load times.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a fantastic co-op shooter that occasionally struggles under strain. The human character models don't exactly look great, but the game delivers what matters: strong gameplay and an excellent atmosphere that's a blast to play with friends.”

“A worthy member of Fatshark's family of Warhammer games, but it needs more polishing and support from the developers until the remarkable core shines.”

“Darktide’s incomplete crafting system doesn’t allow you to efficiently refine gear. Its rewards are scarce and unsatisfying, especially going into the endgame. Optimization is not great, while its cash shop holds hostage any remotely worthwhile cosmetic upgrades so far. It’s a real shame, because all of these missteps cast a dark shadow on its excellent, visceral combat, that evolves Fatshark’s addictive co-op action formula, alongside what’s quite possibly the best depiction of the grimdark universe to grace video games to date.”
