How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 87% | 80 | 105 |

“While simple in scope and presentation, Blood Dungeon truly has the "one more turn" factor; the sauce that makes it replayable for hours and days on end. I”

“By taking a bountiful genre into new and interesting directions, Blood Dungeon is able to rise above the chaff. It eschews mindless stat boosts in favor of a more measured approach to the chaos inherent to the format and, in doing so, creates a distinctive experience that rewards quick thinking just as much as smart build choices. The balance between the low-level power of the player and the necessity of navigation elicits a tension and excitement so rarely seen in bullet-heaven titles.”

“Blood Dungeon sees a distinctive indie studio apply its design smarts to an exhausted modern genre, with surprisingly conservative but enjoyable results.”

“Blood Dungeon marries the gameplay of Spelunky and Vampire Survivors, resulting in a chaotic concoction. It's wacky and a bit outrageous, but if you're able to relish in the chaos, you'll be rewarded with an addicting experience with plenty of new things to constantly throw your way.”

“Blood Dungeon is an addictive roguelike with fast-paced action and tons of charm. The crude drawings mix extremely well with the gameplay loop, which is frantic and has fantastic mechanics. Not all of the upgrades feel impactful, but it’s enough to keep me hooked and wanting to keep playing more and more.”

“Blood Dungeon is a fun, ridiculous cycle of enjoyable pain. The visuals and music keep your blood pumping even as it drains over the cobblestones. The weaponry is equal parts deadly and dope, and I never had a run where I was dissatisfied with the outcome. Messhof has crafted a loop that builds incrementally to a glorious crescendo of havoc, destruction and bones for everyone. There’s genuine excitement, abject stupidity and a serious sense of satisfaction when you finally get 10,000 bones for that jump enhancement.”

“Blood Dungeon is a rewarding gameplay experience that adds a fun yet gruelling twist on a very crowded genre. By adding intense and acrobatic platforming to the mix, it demands your full attention and rewards actual skill a lot more than similar Survivor-likes do. Whilst the RNG can be a little bit unfair at times and the difficulty curve can be tough, the core loop of jumping, shooting, and upgrading is addictively fun, ensuring you’ll keep coming back for ‘one more run’ over and over again.”

“The best thing that Blood Dungeon has to offer is its unique take on the survivor-like gameplay. Bringing the experience to a 2D platformer with insane visuals and characters you’ll just chuckle and shake your head at is awesome. There is still a lot of been-there-done-that here, but the minute-to-minute gameplay is still a whole lot of fun.”

“What makes Blood Dungeon so special is how well it encapsulates that feeling of making you want to do just one more run. Suddenly, an hour has passed, and you’re still making your way forward, making progress and earning new buffs for your character. It’s the mark of any great roguelike, as it never feels unfair, even when a run goes sideways, and the progress is truly satisfying.”

“Blood Dungeon is a refreshing take on the genre Vampire Survivors popularized only four years ago, and it effectively establishes its own identity both with its art style and platformer-focused mentality. It is fun to play, whereas many of these games are ultimately fun to experience passively, a build to the point where you can put the controller down and watch chaos blaze across the screen. You can’t ever put the controller down in Blood Dungeon, and that’s why it’s so easy to spend your bones (if you haven’t already purchased everything) and jump right back in for another run.”

“Addictive? Yes. Strategic? Hell yeah. Gratifying? You bet. Messhof have another potential underground classic on their hands here because they put in the work to make the game feel good, look intriguing, and make your neck snap from the whiplash of slapping you with fun unlocks at just about every turn.”
