How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 73 | 3 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 68% | 65 | 77 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 0 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“I had a lot of fun playing Pressure Overdrive for this review. The colorful graphics and fast-paced twin-stick gameplay mechanics kept me hooked for a while as I continued to "play just one more level" until it was very late at night, I had been playing for several hours in a row! If you want a fun racing/action game on PS4, then you should definitely check this one out.”

“It's a straightforward game that executes well on a straightforward premise. It doesn't ask too much of you, and is well worth what it's asking.”

“Pressure Overdrive is a fun arcade style game for anyone who likes racing games and shooting things. The short levels make it easy to jump into, and with plenty of ways to customize, there is an avenue for many different styles of gameplay.”

“I liked playing through Pressure Overdrive, and had fun with the way each race was setup. The environments look great and the game runs very smoothly. There are a ton of upgrades you can add to your buggy so that you can customize your experience, adding a lot of replay value to the game, especially when you factor in Endless mode and the leaderboards.”

“I appreciate the desire to do something unique with a vertical shooter, but some key elements hold Pressure Overdrive from being great. Local coop is appreciated, but outside of the starting machine gun, I found the additional weapon choices to be lackluster due to a low rate of fire. Not only that, but the lock-on mechanic of the lightning firing weapon would miss half of the time, firing into the ground instead. Boss fights are quite challenging, especially on highly difficulties, but the lack of customizable controls is questionable.”

“To be fair to Chasing Carrots, they’ve not overpriced Pressure Overdrive too much, but if you want to give it a go, I’d say to wait for a sale.”
