How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

While postal work is at the fore, Maracas Studios makes sure to add in slight complexities to keep players engaged. 200 customers in and there’s no end in sight to the soft, yet puzzling gameplay and it really doesn’t hurt that it’s also lovely to look at.”

“The biggest mystery at Cat Mail Co. isn’t where the previous postman disappeared to, but how sorting through hundreds of boxes can be so soothing. The game has its minor flaws, but its laid-back atmosphere, charming world and the satisfaction of a job well done are dangerously addictive. This little, furry experience will settle in your head just like a cat in a box, and no one will ever get it out again.”

“Cat Mail Co. succeeds in its goal of providing us with a completely relaxing gaming experience, free of pressure, anxiety, timers, or stress. We really appreciated the great freedom in managing and decorating the packages, as well as the satisfaction that comes from tidying up the chaotic back room of the post office. While the gameplay works well, the narrative and missions are rather sparse, so over time, the game can become boring without new elements to keep players engaged. Still, it remains a good game, particularly enjoyable for anyone who loves organization and tidying-up simulators.”

“Cat Mail Co., while being entertaining for a few hours of gameplay, definitely lost its luster the more hours I sunk into it. Could this have been due to poor initial planning and organization at the early phases of the game? Maybe. But that being said, the further along you get, the harder it becomes to do any kind of overhaul of your organizational processes. Unless you enjoy throwing all the packages into one corner of the warehouse and starting from scratch. If organization and low-risk gameplay is your jam, however, then Cat Mail Co. will be right up your alley.”

“Cat Mail Co. was actually an unexpected game I felt like really needed at the time. It helps calm all the noise in my head to just help fellow cats send mail over to family and friends. Sure there are times that some of them made me want to put a laser pointer towards the door. However, it made it feel like I was part of a community on an island all over again. This game is a great addition to my cozy/brain off collection. I give Cat Mail Co. the Thumb Culture Platinum Award”
