How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“If you happen to be a fan of the spooky season and retro games this may do the trick”

“Overall, I’m very impressed with the amount of content in Sunshine Manor. It’s definitely a highlight for me in terms of indie games I’ve played this year. The story didn’t feel as cohesive perhaps as Camp Sunshine, and I did encounter a glitch, but the gameplay and gorgeous art style more than makes up for it. Oh, and you get to pet a dog. They get extra kudos for that, of course.”

“Sunshine Manor is a fun and creepy 8-bit game that has you travel between the human and demon world, solving puzzles and testing your hand-eye coordination with platforming sections. Slightly buggy in one level, but if you persevere you can get past it and continue saving the poor ghosts and your friends from the demon.”

“When I think over my few hours spent with Sunshine Manor, I can’t think of a lot I didn’t like about it. It has a great retro presentation that makes good use of creepy imagery, the sound design is well done, and solving the puzzles never was frustrating. Some may wish it was longer or more challenging but if you just want a spooky adventure to last you a night this is one worth going on.”

“I was already fairly sure I’d enjoy Sunshine Manor before playing it. After all, it had authentic horror ingredients I’m very much into, but I still managed to come away from the finished product surprised. It’s elevated by a sturdy gameplay cycle of fetch and return, gentle subversions of expectations, and an engaging cast of characters.”

“Sunshine Manor is one of those titles that, although there is a lot of passion and research behind it, ends up being a somewhat boring experience in the long run but with several plus points.”

“Sunshine Manor is an 8-bit action-adventure with horror elements and head-banging tunes. While there are some bugs and quality of life issues, 80s horror fanatics will probably still find this game pretty cool.”

“Sunshine Manor lays down a fantastically bone-chilling foundation, telling a story that would be welcomed around any night-time campfire. Its gothic and gory themes are heightened by its fantastic sound design, leaving the player both unsettled and reaching for their heart medication. However, the game ultimately falls short thanks to its frustrating gameplay and its lack of map, leading to a lot of aimless wandering. There's potential here but I'm afraid it just didn't quite live up to its vision.”

“Overall, Sunshine Manor is a uniquely spine-tingling title that scratches that Halloween itch with cartoony gore. The terrific visuals and excellent soundtrack, not to mention the ghostly plot of exploration, create a creepy-yet-fun vibe just in time for Halloween.”
