How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“As a Date A Live fan, I was pretty satisfied with Rio Reincarnation. There’s a lot of content to play through, the art is good, and the character routes were definitely a fun read for the most part. However, the game tries too hard to avoid messing with the canon established by the light novels, leading to the true routes and endings feeling like rushed filler.”

“Date A Live: Rio Reincarnation is definitely an interesting collection for both fans and new players. In my opinion, the game offers perfect voice acting and great graphics, all at a top-notch level. While the story is a bit weaker, the rest of the game more than makes up for it. Plus, the game offers several hours of entertainment. You’ll find both entertaining and emotional moments throughout the entire trilogy.”

“You get a lot out of Rio Reincarnation, with three games worth of content, and a bunch of extras in the form of bonus 4-komas and even some bonus novel segments that you can read in the extras. Date-A-Live isn’t for everyone, and if you’re looking for a lot of fanservice then you’re probably going to be disappointed, but if you want a rather legitimate story with some humor and don’t mind the harem-y aspect, I would implore you to give Date-A-Live Rio Reincarnation a try, or even take a stab at the anime or actual novels.”

“Idea Factory may have skimped a bit on narrative, but the visuals far exceed anything I’ve seen in any visual novel, and even most games that fall outside the genre. If this your first foray into dating sims, while the narrative can go all over the place at times, you’ll be so lost in the visuals of the world, you won’t mind where it takes you.”

“DATE A LIVE: Rio Reincarnation is a rather interesting experience. Initially it feels like a poor man's Fate/Stay Night and eventually goes in a fascinating direction. This means you need to get past the slow start and invest in the characters, though it will pay off in the end. You're also getting three games for the price of one, plus plenty of extras, making it a fantastic value. So, if you're a fan of visual novels or just want something to do over the slow months, it's easy to see the value of DATE A LIVE: Rio Reincarnation.”

“Despite falling on its face towards the end, DATE A LIVE: Rio Reincarnation is still a must-read for those who checked out Rinne Utopia and Arusu Install. The satisfaction of seeing the new girls once again is just unparalleled. While it doesn’t give the series a satisfying conclusion, we can only hope for more when DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia comes out in 2020 with the Western release sometime close to that. Rio Reincarnation took eight hours to read, and while paired with the 39 from Rinne Utopia AND Arusu Install it makes the $49.99 standard price worth every penny. The countdown to Ren Dystopia begins and we hope to see you back here when we can review it.”

“There's nothing really deep being said about Rio Reincarnation, nor the other two visual novels in this package. The trilogy really is a series of straightforward, light-hearted, comedic (without being subversive or satirical), charming and simple stories, backed up with some of the most gorgeous fan service art you'll find. Sometimes that's all you need, and Tsunako really is a genius in her field.”
