How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | – | 0 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 82% | 76 | 702 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 84% | 78 | 68 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Onirism is a game that simultaneously frustrates and fascinates, offering a vibrant dreamscape filled with chaotic combat, playful platforming, and vast exploration. Its rough edges and persistent bugs may test patience, but those same imperfections contribute to a unique charm that captivates players willing to embrace the challenge. The treasure trove of weapons, enemies, and modes promises many hours of enjoyable gameplay, especially for those who appreciate creativity over polish.”

“Onirism offers a refreshing platforming and shooting experience, combining visual creativity with varied environment design. While it borrows elements from popular games in weapons, enemies, and side stages, it successfully blends them into a single enjoyable adventure. It could have been one of my standout experiences this year, if not for technical issues like poor controller integration, multiple bugs, and the inability to change dialogue language, which affected the overall experience despite the game’s clear passion and ambition.”

“Onirism is one of those rare titles that surprises you when you least expect it. What seems like a harmless children’s adventure quickly turns into a quirky, energetic, and strangely addictive third-person shooter with tonnes of personality. Beneath its cartoonish look lies a game that can be surprisingly challenging, making Onirism far more than just another “game for kids”. Unfortunately, the game’s technical hiccups hold it back from being a decent game, at least. Outdated visuals, a repetitive soundtrack, awkward platforming, and poor controller support constantly remind you of its rough edges”

“Onirisim is a great homage to the PlayStation 2 classics of yesteryear with fun, fast-paced gameplay and mechanics. However, it has issues that can be aggravating to deal with.”

“Onirism is deceptive at first glance. Behind its cozy, colorful art style is a wild, unrelenting shooter that never runs out of new ideas. It’s playful, challenging, and bursting with charm in a way that makes the occasional frustration worth pushing through.”

“Onirism is an ambitious title, funny at times and certainly original, but which pays for the excess of content and a certain technical superficiality.”

“Onirism is a must-play for fans of imaginative indie shooters or vintage 3D platformers. It provides a sense of exploration that is becoming increasingly rare in today's glossy, formulaic gaming world. Players are enticed to explore Crearia's next gateway because, despite its occasional blunders, it does so with charm and zeal.”

“Onirism presents an interesting set of ideas and has enough personality to stand out, but its execution still falls short of the concept’s potential. The combination of unbalanced difficulty and poorly structured levels undermines the experience, even with the protagonist’s solid mobility and the world’s visual charm. On the other hand, the variety of weapons and game modes brings fresh energy to the adventure, adding new dynamics to the combat. Overall, Onirism is a fun experience, but one that still needs adjustments to become truly accessible to different types of players.”

“A wildly creative, joyfully chaotic action‑platformer that delivers frequent moments of inspired design and pure fun, tempered by technical roughness that’s fixable with focused post‑launch polish.”
