How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 90.7, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 4,877 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

A must have for fans of the films and a great multiplayer game for shooter fans as well. Battlefront does suffer a few design flaws that include a weak single-player section, poor AI at times, and a lack of an underlying continuity between battles.

The fluid movement of each class is wonderful including the rag doll effect when they have been shot, trampled over or blown up.

I just wish there were a melee attack so I could finally bludgeon an Ewok to death with the butt of my blaster.

Hopefully LucasArts will address the latency issue which would vastly improve the overall experience. As it stands if you are a fan of Star Wars you should pick this up without hesitation.

Doesn't feel as complete as it should. But the sheer intensity and scale of the battles, as well as the expertly crafted environments and diversity of characters, make it work better than you'd expect. [Nov 2004, p.86]

The best Star Wars action game we've played since "Rogue Leader," delivering the sort of galactic conflicts we've long marvelled on the big-screen in a balanced and inviting manner that continually satisfies.

The console versions of the game--especially the Xbox version--might seem more fresh and appealing to their respective audiences, who don't have as many choices in online team-based shooters.

There’s no Downloadable Content, no scoreboards, not even a lobby for online play, and single player is as skimpy as Leia’s slave outfit.

Despite a few lags and slowdowns, the multiplayer action is always involving, and it gets pretty challenging when you're playing against a bunch of other humans. If you've got an Xbox Live account, you owe it to yourself to give Battlefront a try.

In all fairness this sort of game has been done before, and to a higher quality, but if you have even a passing interest in Star Wars then the real beauty of this title stems from the brilliant way in which it has tapped into the franchise.

Star Wars Battlefront is essentially action-figure theater on the television screen, and playing online is like inviting your friends over to take part.
