How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Baldur’s Gate 3 is a great adventure that's fun to be in. I adore this game despite all the potential pitfalls. Its freedom and possibilities really stand out, I think the only game that could rival this RPG would be Fallout: New Vegas.”

“In case you couldn’t tell, I f.cking love this game....Baldur’s Gate 3 is truly exemplary, one of the few videogames in history that wholly deserve the universal acclaim heaped so freely upon releases above a certain marketing budget. The choices offered to the player in terms of both crafting an adventurer and influencing the story do an incredible job of translating Dungeons & Dragons to a form of interactive software that surpasses the loftiest expectation. The script is incredible, the gameplay beneath it downright luxurious. There won't be another like this in a long, long time. ”

“Baldur's Gate III already offers an unearthly amount of content and freedom. However, that doesn't change the fact that I and many other players would love to see the aforementioned sequel or DLC. Will that be the case? Time will tell, although the main factor determining the future of the brand will be, as usual, gamers' wallets. I, however, have nothing left to do but to recommend Baldur's Gate III to everyone. Fans of tabletop RPGs will feel like they're in paradise. And all the rest? They will experience one of the best games of the genre ever.”

“My first playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 was a marvel: beautiful, enthralling, and bursting with content. Larian Studios has successfully created a CRPG that welcomes players who are not already part of the genre’s existing fold. An 80+ hour experience that’s gripping from start to finish, Baldur’s Gate 3 fills a vacancy that has not been truly filled since The Witcher 3. Those who are deeply familiar with D&D 5th Edition may have a heightened sensitivity to some of its shortcomings, but make no mistake: Baldur’s Gate 3 is a triumph and any fan of RPGs would do well to give it a roll.”

“The journey for Larian Studios was a long one, and it's safe to say that Baldur's Gate 3 is truly worthy of all the praise it has received to this point.”

“Baldur's Gate 3 is, without a doubt, the most fantastic RPG I've ever had the opportunity to play and review. It offers an enjoyable experience with plenty of choices to make. With unprecedented freedom in the combat system and exploration, with full content without microtransactions, Baldur's Gate 3 is an authentic adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons. The game's size and the world's depth can be complex and overwhelming for newcomers to the genre. Baldur's Gate 3 reminds us that developers can trust the player and proves that putting together an exceptional title means risking hard work, which in this case, paid off. Baldur's Gate 3 has become the new standard that other RPGs will inherit for generations.”

“Baldur’s Gate 3 is an exceptionally good game that caters to many playstyles, and modders have already paved the way for many more. Thanks to its high level of professionally executed complexity, combined with the overall coherence of both the story and the gameplay experience, the game deserves high praise and can rightly be considered one of the best RPGs of last year, or even of the past several years.”

“It's taken a couple of decades, but Baldur's Gate finally has a worthy sequel. While the sandbox it promises proves to be cunning legerdemain and the main story descends into another generic hero's journey, the richness of your party and the side quests you encounter will keep you engaged for literally hundreds of hours.”

“Baldur's Gate 3 is a masterclass in table-top-inspired CRPGs, rewarding imagination above all in a gorgeous presentation that brings the Forgotten Realms to life. Larian Studios' ambitious scope has birthed one of the most reactive worlds in all of gaming, where player choices govern both landmark events and smaller romantic flings with its delectable cast of companions. Through a nicely woven story that best represents its characters' misery and a combat style benefitted by unorthodox tactics, it has rightfully alarmed the larger AAA games industry to do better. Sure, there are some technical shortcomings in the final act, but that doesn't diminish its status as my Game of the Year so far. Baldur's Gate 3 is a certified must-play title and I can't wait to start my second playthrough, preferably as a monk Dark Urge, given how untimely and goofy his quotes are.”

“Larian Studios' magnum opus. A pinnacle of RPG design that merges depth, uniqueness and writing of the best cRPGs with production quality and audio-visual presentation of AAA games. It is a new high for the video game industry.”
