How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Detroit: Become Human is an easy recommendation for fans of story-driven games. It’s not only one of the best looking games I’ve played all year, but it manages to do so with a story that is both engaging and makes use of some top-tier storytelling methods. It is a massive step up from the studio’s previous two titles in just about every department. However, it isn’t free from issue entirely, still suffering from some writing hiccups and the occasional technical issue.

Detroit: Become Human is simply the best Quantic Dream game and best project in interactive movies genre. The game took a step forward in the gameplay department and offered an atmospheric and exciting journey with touching story, bright characters and interesting setting.

Detroit: Become Human is a great prediction of our nearest future, where rise of the unemployment among humans will be caused by an ever-increasing automation. But most importantly, it's an emotional story about the cruelty of our world, about fighting for freedom, and a price you have to pay to gain it. And the best Quantic Dream game to date.

The game believes it's a sci-fi version of Eyes on the Prize, when really it's closer to a sci-fi Kendall Jenner Pepsi commercial.

Detroit: Become Human is a uniquely complex game that will appeal to different people in different ways, and may not appeal to some at all. I therefore recommend that you download the demo to see if it’s right for you and if it captures your interest.

Detroit is simply unlike anything else available. For that reason alone it deserves to be played, but when allied with the chance to create your own story that will not be the same for many others and the stunning tech on show, what more do you need?

Overall, Detroit: Become Human is a gorgeous game that brings some welcome improvements over Quantic Dream's earlier work, but one that is ultimately flawed due to its predictable plot.

Detroit: Become Human delivers a story with a ton of possible choices, and a lot of questions for a player to bear afterward. If you like it when games make you think about them after you play them, this is the game for you. Stunning visuals and music score, make you forget about some weaker points of the game. But all in all, it is an enjoyable experience you should not miss.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Learning the story of Kara, Connor and Markus in Detroit: Become Human was a pleasant and engaging affair. I really grew fond of the heroes and I pondered over every decision. Quantic Dream's new game is a really good interactive movie, and the degree of non-linearity is amazing. It's a pity that the story itself is totally bland, obvious and downright disappointing; the characters are flat and cliché, and the game doesn't deliver any meaningful message - it's almost baffling how the authors could have missed such an opportunity to make a statement.

Cage's ambitions might eventually overreach into bad taste, but even then Detroit still pulls off what every previous Cage game has failed to do. It tells a coherent, occasionally thought-provoking story that unites the interaction of videogames with the language of film.

Detroit: Become Human is a solid interactive narrative from start to finish and David Cage's best game yet. For 39.99€ (at the moment of writing) it is worth the buy, especially if you like the genre.
