How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Maybe I was too harsh on Expedition Zero, and the game really doesn’t deserve such a low rating. Unfortunately, it only kept me entertained for the time between breakfast and lunch; I didn’t even feel like eating, and all I could think about was the game’s wasted potential. It’s a shame, because the game offers plenty of survival elements, and the action isn’t entirely bad, even though there isn’t much of it. The gloomy atmosphere is well-established, but it lacks just about everything that could bring the game up to at least an average level.”

“When Expedition Zero is at its best, it's a tense battle against the elements as you scavenge and try to get out of the surreal zone. At its worst, it's getting killed by annoying monsters. Unfortunately, you do more of the latter, making it more frustrating than scary. If Expedition Zero still interests you with its problems, get ready to grit your teeth.”

“You are alone, in an endless freezing night and THINGS ARE HUNTING YOU. To get out of this place you need to complete missions, collect materials, craft upgrades and fight for your life! Expedition Zero is a scary, horror first-person shooter game that will make you play on the tips of your toes, and being alert won’t save you from getting scared. Game mechanics, HUD, UI, Story… Every element of the game is SIMPLE AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND, with one exception… How to fight those freaking things that don’t stop screaming! Besides that, there are some bugs in the game that will hopefully be fixed before it is released.”

“Expedition Zero is a tough journey through horrible conditions that can often feel one-sided. On the surface, it seems like a great horror adventure but that tone will change after your first instant death. If you are willing to deal with the technical issues and insanely aggressive monster AI, Expedition Zero will give you that gripping and intense feeling only horror games can deliver.”

“Expedition Zero is an interesting game with some good ideas and exceptional atmosphere use. Still, the positives are let down by several bugs, issues around areas of the game feeling unfinished and other frustrations. There's certainly a chance you'll have some good moments with the game, but I can only imagine these moments will be outweighed by other less fun and more annoying moments.”

“Right now, Expedition Zero has mostly negative reviews. Players are surprised that the final product has little to do with a convincing demo. Expedition Zero has good graphics quality. The atmosphere of horror is created both by the darkness that envelops the visited locations and by the soundtrack. Expedition Zero has a decent amount of positive sides, so the game can be called a representative of well-made survivalists from the budget category.”

“Expedition Zero does a solid enough job of creating atmosphere and making the player nervous, but playing it just isn’t fun. The seed of a solid idea is here in the game’s various printers, but they don’t do enough to help overcome the slow and awkward movement. Horror fans may find a few hours of scares, but anyone else should steer well clear of this expedition.”
