How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Glover was an ambitious and unique concept back in 1998. Ultimately, it's where the game should remain. It is a shame - with improved controls and tweaks to the design, it could have shown the concept in its best possible light. The badge of a "remaster" really does not qualify as the Nintendo Switch edition feels very much a cash-grab that's building on Nintendo nostalgia. Unless you've got a fondness for Glover, it's difficult to recommend diving into this Nintendo 64 gem in 2025.”

“Glover returns with very little fanfare and sadly, it's not going to win a new audience with a lackluster remastering. The physics-based puzzles are still fun to attempt, but there's so little else here, one could argue it should have stayed back in the 90's.”

“I thought for a long time on how to rate this release. From a preservation perspective, Glover is an interesting case indeed, but as a remaster, it barely deserves two stars. However: when the game works and the level design shines (rarely), it does have some fun moments and quirky ideas. The music is also quite catchy in many places, so it's not a completely hopeless case. Nevertheless, Glover would've needed a lot more work to make it more appealing and relevant for younger generations.”

“Glover is a beloved title of an excellent era of 3D platformer games, so it’s really disappointing the developers did not adapt the game to be playable to modern standards. The game didn’t need a rebuild, but it clearly didn’t get the quality of life features it needed to be accessible to first-time players, especially frustrating given the title has been on Steam for so long. If you’re a big fan of Glover and are confident you won’t be frustrated by the old-school controls, then this will be perfect be for you. However, if you’ve no affinity for the game I strongly recommend you avoid or wait for a significant store sale.”

“Even in its remastered form, Glover is really frustrating to play, and not an enjoyable experience at all. With the amount of games out there and the limited amount of time most of us have, you would be better off getting something else, unless you really want a nostalgic trip to experience a rather bland re-release of a 3D platformer.”

“Glover isn’t particularly long, and most of the challenge comes from the handling of the game itself. If you’re really into 3D platformers, especially ones that are experimental in controls and execution, then you might find some investable enjoyment from this not-exactly-beloved title. If you were hoping for something that worked in the same field that Mario 64 was able to operate in, you’ve got to keep shopping. This glove doesn’t fit, so we all have to quit.”

“Glover is still a cute little game that really brings back that vintage N64 Platformer vibe with vibrancy and charming music and, at times, really showcases some clever level design and puzzle elements. But it has technical issues and a control scheme that just does not gel well with modern platforms. Couple with frustrating camera angles and some really tedious sections, this one soon becomes very tough to handle.”

“Glover is a very unique experience: it's a really brilliant platforming idea, which resulted in a game that, while not a masterpiece, is super fun and different from anything else the genre has to offer. But unfortunately the remastering work done for the Nintendo Switch leaves a lot to be desired and it's a little difficult to recommend this version over the N64 version.”

“Overall, I can respect the publisher for releasing a straightforward and no-nonsense port of Glover, as fans and purists will probably enjoy having the original experience preserved on modern consoles. Personally, I would have preferred some slight concessions be made to the gameplay in order to be more accessible. Regardless, I’m sure fans of the original and of obscure retro titles will enjoy seeing this four-fingered hero back in the limelight. ”
