How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

It’s Jurassic Earth Defense Overwatch War Z and it looks like it should be bad but it isn’t. I can’t be anything but impressed by that.

A major focus of games discourse in recent years has been the number of notable titles that released in an unfinished, unpolished state. Exoprimal presents the inverse of this fear, where players get a fully-polished title that fails to elicit even a modicum of delight or exhilaration. There’s nothing wrong with a campy, silly backdrop for a multiplayer title, but you have to actually make the case that shooting these MacGuffins is a better use of time than shooting a different set of MacGuffins. In the current environment for multiplayer experiences, which is far more competitive than it’s ever been for new entrants, simply working as intended can’t be enough.

Exoprimal is an average title that will entertain but frustrate you at times. Exosuits are the best thing the game has to offer, but the poor implementation of playing as dinosaurs spoils the fun.

A decent gift for Game Pass subscribers, but not the best purchase at full price. Exoprimal is Capcom's most successful attempt at entering the multiplayer co-op entertainment market, but the length of time it takes to develop its full potential will easily scare off potential newcomers.

Exoprimal is definitely a great third-person PvP/PvE game that skillfully blends the concept of dinosaurs with the modern world. The game offers a wide variety of character classes and different types of dinosaurs, all presented with beautiful graphics and solid optimization. The icing on the cake is the excellent soundtrack and pleasant sound design. Unfortunately, the game lacks variety. In other words, it will grab your attention and keep you entertained, but the fun fades away very quickly. Killing dinosaurs in PvE is entertaining, but the PvP aspect feels unbalanced, compounded by the absence of the diverse game modes found in other PvP titles, features that would certainly enhance the experience. Even so, it’s a solid game, and if you find a group of teammates, you’ll have a great time.

Exoprimal is an adrenaline-packed journey that melds science fiction and prehistoric chaos into an engaging multiplayer experience.

Overall Exoprimal is a good time. It succeeds at giving you that almost pick up and play overpowered feeling of blasting through waves of enemies, whilst also keeping you gripped to a story that, although can be confusing at times, is rather clever and interesting. Once you power through an initial lackluster few hours, you’ll be rewarded with an excellent 3rd person shooter, and an urge to rewatch the Jurassic Park films.

Exoprimal is, as it stands, a dreadfully unfinished experience that I couldn't realistically recommend to anyone.

Exoprimal is an excellent competitive multiplayer experience with a bright future ahead of it and my first pick as far as dino slaying games are concerned, it’s just a pity that the drawn-out delivery of gameplay, a limited map pool, and high rate of repetition (especially early on) dampens the overall experience.

Exoprimal is an unusual game that pulls off its absurd premise surprisingly well, mechs versus dinosaurs sounds like cheap B-movie trash, but thanks to solid mechanics and thoughtful team design it works, and Capcom has created something that stands genuinely apart from other multiplayer shooters.

The exosuites and great customization mechanics stand out the most, you can truly make something your own. However that alone isn't enough to keep player coming back. Exoprimal needs to more to fill the large empty spaces.

A white-knuckle fusion of Overwatch 2 and Gears of War, the excellent Exoprimal is one of the best co-op shooters in quite some time. With a varied, entertaining roster of characters, all with unique playstyles and synergies, there's tactical depth to this third-person shooter which only serves to make its pulsating prehistoric battles all the more rewarding. While it is a little lightweight at launch, and there will be questions over whether it'll receive the post-release support required to ensure its longevity, there's the foundation for something truly special here.
