How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 81 | 20 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 87% | 81 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 74% | 70 | 69 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Whether you have a group of friends to play with or feel like conquering the campaigns alone, you’ll have a blast no matter what. Demeo is easy to pick up and difficult to master, although it should be noted that the social space Heroes Hangout is inexplicably absent from this version. Nevertheless, it has a slew of content, a fun and strategic gameplay loop, stunning visual detail, and superb virtually reality implementation that all help to create a fully immersive tabletop title like no other.”

“Demeo is a wonderful approximation of what it's like to take down the big boss at the end of a campaign. It has some slower moments but its peaks are truly wonderful.”

“Demeo is a remarkable concept that works incredibly well on the Quest 2. Its lack of content and essential features holds it back. Not counting any repeated playthroughs or attempts, you'll likely see everything there is to see in a couple of hours. While new and potentially free content is on the horizon, the current price of $30 feels a touch steep. When Demeo adds some essential features, like a level editor or a save function, and some more dungeons, it could become one of the go-to VR experiences for RPG fans. It hasn't reached that lofty goal yet, though.”

“"Demeo" on PS5 offers players everywhere a chance to experience one of the greatest VR board games available without having to buy an expensive headset.”

“As someone from across the world explained to me the other night as we played, they just loved that they could get the combat experience of D&D without having the full-time commitment of the entire campaign. A sentiment that a lot of us with day jobs can get behind.”

“With what we have at launch, Demeo is still an absolute blast. The feeling of conquering a dungeon with your team does feel like an accomplishment, and if my eyes could handle longer sessions of VR, I would likely jump into numerous games one after the other. Yet once those extra maps are introduced and perhaps even a difficulty option to increase the challenge for experienced players, Demeo may find itself as a must-play for VR gamers in the coming months.”

“Demeo is a fun and accessible digital board game, evoking games like HeroQuest with its turn-based dungeon-crawling. In VR it's a pleasingly tactile experience that's great to share with co-op friends, but if you need or prefer to play on a TV screen? Well that's still good too.”

“Whether you are looking to experience Demeo on PC or through the world of Virtual Reality. If you are a fan of D&D then Demeo is a must-play. Challenging encounters paired with straightforward control and gameplay design. Sprinkle in a beautiful art style, with 3 unique campaigns to explore. Demeo is the perfect game to work into your party game rotation with friends. As well as worth exploring on your own time. Despite being an early access title, you will likely get dozens upon dozens of hours of entertainment from the world of Demeo.”

“Demeo is an excellent dungeon-crawling adventure that is fun playing by yourself but even more so with others in the community. You can play it without VR but it feels much more immersive inside the headset as you actually perform the actions.”

“Demeo is a great game if you want to relax with a small group of friends and play a turn-based virtual tabletop RPG.”

“Though Demeo nails the quality tabletop experience in VR, as well as creates an incredible social space, it's thin amount of content makes it hard to recommend at its price point.”

“Demeo is a delightfully-distilled tabletop RPG experience for up to four players that fits just as well in VR as it does on PC or PlayStation.”
