How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“If it’s been some time since you played the original or if you never played it at all, The Last of Us Part 1 is totally worth its price considering it’s the best way to experience its wonder. Otherwise it just reads like a bestselling book with an updated cover.”

“For several months, I’d been looking forward to finally playing, even though I don’t own and have never owned a PlayStation console, one of the greatest gaming gems this console has ever seen. Instead of the excitement I’d sort of expected, I was met with a huge disappointment and a very cold, if not downright icy, shower. The Last of Us Part I is, overall, a disappointment in its PC version, and while the story and gameplay feel solid, all the positive aspects are quickly overshadowed by the terrible technical performance, which means you won’t get to fully enjoy the adventures of Joel Miller and Ellie Williams, at least not in its current state. On behalf of us at Gaming Professors, I’m giving the PC version a mere five out of ten points.”

“It's downright baffling how Naughty Dog went with the 'release first, fix later' mentality for its most important PC release. Even with the 14GB patch, The Last of Us Part I suffers from poor memory management, leading to a highly compromised experience fueled by stutters, sound issues, unusually long loading times, and more. Sure, underneath those problems, you've got one of the greatest post-apocalyptic survival stories ever told in gaming history, but the hurdles to get there aren't worth it. At Rs. 3,999/ $59.99, you're getting what is arguably PlayStation's first early-access PC port, a tight slap to those who avoided spoilers for nearly a decade. Unless you've got a bleeding-edge PC, don't buy this game in its current state, and pray for the issues to get resolved in time. I mean, if games like Batman: Arkham Knight and Cyberpunk: 2077 run fine and dandy now, I've got faith that The Last of Us Part I will get there eventually.”

“Despite its shoddy performance, The Last of Us Part I on PC is still one of the best games to ever grace Steam's virtual shelves.”

“The original The Last of Us will always be my favourite PlayStation game. The narrative is amazing, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is wholesome and it all culminates into a satisfying story that will bring tears to your eyes. However, I do not recommend the remake. Even though there are extensive graphical enhancements, 60FPS support, DualSense support and a variety of accessibility options, none of this justifies the admission price. And, above all, there was really no need for this remake, the original is perfect as it is and available on PS Plus. Skip it and wait for a fat discount if you are keen to try it. ”

“I love Joel and Ellie's story, but it was so intensive that I didn't need to go through it again. However, I envy those who will get to know this game now for the very first time. The Last of Us: Part I is a terrific "remaster of a remaster" that guarantees an even better and more immersive experience.”

“The Last of Us Part I is the best version of one of the best games of all time.”

“Whether it’s the first time you’re experiencing this incredible survival story for the first time or the 20th, there really isn’t a better looking or performing version of the game. Whether you believe the game needed to be remade or not is beside the point, when so much has been done to make the game visually impressive while also more accessible, it’s opened up the game to be experienced by a whole range of new players. While I do wish the incredibly fun factions mode of the original had been included, The Last Of Us Part 1 perfectly blends incredible visuals and cinematic story telling in a way that only the technical wizards at Naughty Dog are able to do.”

“The Last of Us Part I is the perfect excuse to return to the story of Joel and Ellie, with a renewed graphic section that allows us to relive the adventure in the most spectacular way possible.”

“My verdict is this; if you've ever played the original The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us Part II, there's not much of a reason to immediately grab The Last Of Us Part I. Naughty Dog should have put more effort and resources into updating the gameplay mechanics to be more similar to The Last Of Us Part II. Improved visuals alone don't really justify the full price tag of RM299 if the rest of the experience is mostly the same. That being said, The Last Of Us Part I is definitely perfect for those who's never played the original game.”

“While there are legitimate value contentions to make about this quasi-remake, Part I earns the crown as the definitive edition of this seminal title.”
