How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

What’s so good about this installment of Ratchet and Clank is that it is a true labor of love. There is no other way a game can feel so good, play so well, and take you on an impressive adventure all without that special ingredient to keep it going. The definition of a next-gen title, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a must-play that will leave you super satisfied and hungry for another big game like this one.

Technical issues aside, Rift Apart is well worth a play. It’s a wonderful game with polished gameplay, a decent enough story and an absolutely gorgeous aesthetic. While the combat grows a little stale on the final few worlds and those glitches and bugs are very annoying, there’s enough here to highly recommend.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an exciting action title, that simply never gets boring. You can expect colorful characters, epic battles, and fun to explore worlds. On the tech side Rift Apart shows everything that PlayStation 5 has to offer, be it great visuals, surround sound, or DualSense features. It's the perfect benchmark for Sony's new gaming system.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has always been a game with great ambitions. To bring back a good old series in modern way isn’t for everyone and yet Insomniac Games did everything right. The story of Ratchet and Clank is worthy of every single animated movie. It will take you on an engaging expedition to save the world through magnificent cut-scenes with professional voice-over. But unlike animated movies this adventure is there to be experienced. Gameplay follows the standards of action adventure and platform games and in many ways, it goes even beyond. The layout of action, slow story moments and logic is breathtaking and every single time you spend with Ratchet, Clank and Rivet will be the time you enjoy. Battles are still a little bit more chaotic and you have to take some time to get along with the aiming, but in the final judgment Rift Apart offers you an experience, which won’t leave you steady till the final battle no matter what. Planets are just wonderful as is the graphic and technological processing managed by console PlayStation 5. The next part isn’t trying to change anything in its core or to be something entirely new or different. It just wants to do the honor to the famous and beloved couple of heroes. And it does that damn well. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is one of the best games in its genre. That is something that can’t be changed by any smaller mistake. If you want an action adventure with platform attributes, you don’t have to search any further. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the world you are looking for. And a game with hardly any competitor of the same nature.

A fun and engaging adventure with beautiful graphics. Basic gameplay, though, doesn't really bring anything new to the series.

Despite its title’s declaration of intent, Rift Apart isn’t willing to stand on its own.

But if you’d like to enjoy the adventure using the DualSense controller, you can. The PC version supports the official PlayStation controller, including haptic feedback, so Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart doesn’t fall short in this regard either. And that brings us to the end of our review; now nothing stands in the way of evaluating this game and assigning it a final score.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an over-the-top thrill ride that showcases the power of the PlayStation 5 whilst having the most fun possible. Fast, fluid and filled with outstanding set pieces and the series' absurd arsenal of weapons, this game takes Insomniac's action-platformer to another level.

If there is one title that feels like it beckons the start of the next-gen era, it is undoubtedly this game. Its flawless presentation and beautiful graphics may be polluted by a glitch or two along the way, but nonetheless, it is an amazing experience that just can't be recommended enough.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a terrific, extremely beautiful game with solid gameplay and tons of fun. It doesn't add anything new, though - we got a safe sequel to one of the most important PlayStation series, a game perfect for a new wave of gamers.

It's a maximal game with big wacky characters and a killer shotgun. This is a game about friendship and games about friendship fucking rule. Rift Apart is better than action figures.
