How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| All-time Steam reviews | 78% | 72 | 258 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 69% | 66 | 4 |

““Can it get a second chance on the Nintendo Switch 2?””

“Tales of Xillia Remastered is another successful feather in the cap of the series’ 30th anniversary Remastered Project. While the game itself has some wrinkles in the story department, and visually the game shows its age, it is still filled with fun combat, wonderful characters, and one of the best antagonists in the whole series.”

“If you missed it the first time, this remaster is a great way to experience it. If you played it on PS3, the improvements make it worth revisiting. Tales of Xillia was a standout in 2013, and on PS5 it proves that good characters and good ideas never really get old.”

“Tales of Xillia Remastered is a perfect opportunity for newcomers and fans of classic JRPGs seeking an engaging story, dynamic combat, and deep character customization. However, if you expect a major leap in graphics compared to the original, it may not fully meet those expectations.”

“Tales of Xillia Remastered, despite its shortcomings, remains a valuable work. It’s a remaster that chooses to honor nostalgia and authenticity rather than rebuild everything from scratch, a decision that some players may truly appreciate. With its precise gameplay, philosophical storytelling, and memorable soundtrack, the game still manages to engage modern audiences and remind us that some worlds, even as time passes, remain worth living in.”

“So, while there are elements of Tales of Xillia that don't quite measure up to today's standards, the core adventure remains rock solid, and the remaster brings some welcome additions and extras to the table. This PS3 RPG deserved a good re-release, and it's got one.”

“Tales of Xillia Remastered doesn’t just revisit a fan-favourite, it refines it. With expressive writing, fluid combat, and thoughtful upgrades, it’s a heartfelt JRPG that still holds its own.”

“Tales of Xillia Remastered isn't exactly a masterpiece. The flaws of the original are still present: the sometimes bleak and empty overworld, pop-in of objects, tedious side quests, and excessive backtracking significantly detract from the overall enjoyment. However, it also boasts a captivating main story, endearing characters, excellent dialogue, a wonderful soundtrack, and generally customizable gameplay. It's not a hit, but it's not a flop either. Ultimately, it's a good to very good game.”

“More than a decade later, Tales of Xillia Remastered breaks free from the shackles of PlayStation 3 and is re-released, improved and updated, on all platforms.”

“Tales of Xillia may not be the best entry in the Tales series, but it does not necessarily need to be that. It still delivers a charming JRPG experience with its own unique identity, along with an engaging story and a strong cast of characters, as expected from the series. In doing so, Bandai Namco continues its successful efforts to reintroduce classic entries through welcome and meaningful improvements, with the hope that this project will bring more Tales titles to modern platforms.”

“Overall, Tales of Xillia Remastered is a really enjoyable experience. If you haven't played the Tales of games before but are interested in them, Xillia is a great place to start, as it's story and mechanics are so fluid.”
