How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“A good extreme sports game with some questionable design choices which can spoil the experience.”

“Riders Republic is a buffet of breathtaking sights and catchy sounds, but it’s bogged down by checklists and grinds.”

“Riders Republic brings a unique experience that offers a large portion of all kinds of adrenaline activities. If you're looking for an open-ended title where you can go crazy and let loose, or if you've played the previous STEEP, Riders Republic is exactly the game you're looking for, and it definitely pushes the boundaries of its predecessor by a considerable length. We'll see what interest players show over time, but already Ubisoft's new sports title is well on its way to success.”

“Riders Republic is an incredibly fun sports game that should appeal to both the casual and hardcore crowd.”

“Riders Republic is a masterclass in world design and it is a truly surprising and fun experience for any extreme sports lover. It has some common drops in quality of experience, recurrent for most Ubisoft open-world games, but it still poses as a truly entertaining and original experience that will give pleasure to fans for some time, especially in a great and fun multiplayer and innovative track design and challenges.”

“Riders Republic contains a beautiful, expansive playground of the likes we’ve not seen before in an extreme sports title. Its ability to combine real-world locations, equipment, and tricks, with an over-the-top, “just go crazy and have fun” demeanor is truly a joy.”

“Riders Republic is a game that will entertain fans of the genre who are looking for challenges, and will approach those who are a little more hesitant, without pretending to become a gem of the genre. The game is also technically valid, considering the Cross-Gen nature and all the problems that an Open World like this can unfortunately suffer from.”

“The spiritual successor to Steep has a few kinks to work out, but by and large Riders Republic is a helluva fun trip.”

“Riders Republic has managed to tweak the majority of small gripes that were in place in an already fun beta release and in its final version, given gamers easily the best extreme sports simulator on the market - ironically done by embracing the craziness of the sports themselves and making events increasingly zanier as progression is made. For purists, they will find the type of experience that will link them in memory, back to the seasons of being out there on the trails and slopes (or in the air if anyone has actually tried that mental gliding thing). For the stay-at-home gamer, this really is as close as it feels to being out there with the added enjoyment of the extreme element pushed to its… well, extreme, all without a scraped knee or full reconstructive surgery in sight.”

“Ubisoft have done a great job here and the game is ridiculously enjoyable to play. If you’re a fan of extreme sports and games that give you a lot of freedom to explore a sandbox, Riders Republic will appeal to you.”

“Riders Republic is a fantastic open world sports game that delivers big on massively multiplayer arcade mayhem whilst also giving solo players a ton of content to dig into. There's an enormous, breathtakingly beautiful world to explore here that delivers carefully curated tracks and events for each every one of its sports disciplines, whilst also giving you free reign to head on out and cut your own path through its seven national parks' worth of wonderful wilderness. Yes there's some painful dialogue here and there, as well some issues with bugs and crashes during this launch period, but none of that is enough to put us off getting stuck in and just enjoying the smorgasbord of arcade sports action that Ubisoft Annecy has served up.”

“Riders Republic is a solid game all around; even in terms of its technical aspects, I hardly experienced hiccups that would hamper the experience. It can make you a believer in games like it - Ubisoft has a clear winner on their hands that, if nurtured properly, could spawn a community that will gladly take in any new content coming their way in the future.”
