How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 82% | 76 | 179 |

“While it has some survival horror appeal, pretty frequent long pauses, and an overall pervasive jankiness in most areas make it tough to want to stick with”

“Ebola Village is a textbook example of inspiration without understanding, a clumsy Resident Evil clone that gets nearly everything wrong, right down to its wasted Soviet setting.”

“Ultimately, *Ebola Village* is an example of how mere imitation, devoid of a unique vision, is bound to fail. The game proves that simply copying the surface-level elements of successful franchises isn't enough. Without compelling characters, a gripping story, innovative gameplay mechanics, or technical competence, all that remains is a hollow shell. Much like the disease that inspired its name, this game is best avoided. However, if you happen to be a film fan with a taste for so-called "mockbusters," you might consider giving it a look.”

“Ebola Village contains moments that, if developed further and without the Resident Evil skin, could be part of at least a noteworthy indie survival horror game.”

“Ebola Village is a shameless imitation of Resident Evil Village and in some ways that has something to it. The inspiration is clearly taken from the Resident Evil franchise. Technically it is a mess here and there and that also causes hilarity at times. Are you looking for a great horror game? Then you should ignore Ebola Village. Are you looking for the Temu variant of Resident Evil and just want to be entertained? Then add another point and immediately purchase the entire series. We have now done that too.”

“Ebola Village is not a modern horror experience, not a technical masterpiece and certainly not a new classic. What you do get, however, is a raw, nostalgic survival horror journey that is sometimes amusing, sometimes irritating, but never entirely without charm. The game is a tribute to classic survival horror, but one that has clearly been made on a shoestring. Ebola Village feels familiar, yet dated, as if you’re playing a game that was accidentally released twenty years too late.”

“EBOLA VILLAGE relies more on familiar genre tropes than original ideas, offering a decent look but falling flat with repetitive gameplay, weak storytelling, predictable level design, and poor animations. While it may provide brief fun for horror enthusiasts, it ultimately remains overshadowed by its inspirations.”

“Sadly and not so shockingly, Ebola Village isn’t going to be the title that dethrones any of the kings of horror. And looking at it, did any of us really think it would be? There are flashes of good in the game, but for the most part, it just feels like a painfully phoned-in Resident Evil Village clone with a poor excuse for a story and some unintentionally shocking and funny things going on in the rather short run time. I knew I was in for a ride when the game gave me an option to watch a movie. I assumed it was the intro, so I chose to watch it, and the game just opened up my browser and started playing a bizarre live-action short film based on the game, which was oddly hosted on a Resident Evil fan channel on Youtube rather than implemented in the game itself. Whatever strange puzzle-coded apartment you live in, I wouldn’t recommend you leave to venture out to Ebola Village, not even to save your family. Instead, save your money and pick up literally any other bigger-name horror game, and you’ll have a better and more cohesive time. Now, excuse me while I go get hepatitis and try to immunize myself from this series.”

“Ebola Village tries to dress itself as classic survival horror, but ends up as a cheap, clumsy, opportunistic copy with dreadful combat, absurd AI, and no personality.”

“Ebola Village tries hard but never really succeeds. It borrows all the classic Resident Evil elements, yet the final result falls short despite Indie Games Studio’s passion and effort. The limited budget shows, and the game would have benefited from revisiting both its design choices and its script. With several issues packed into its three-hour runtime, it’s far from a solid survival horror. Still, there are glimpses of potential: the gunplay works, dismembering enemies is fun, and the atmosphere, though heavily derivative, hits the right notes. Viktor Trokhin clearly has talent, especially as a solo developer, but he needs someone to help channel it better. Maybe a fifth chapter will finally let him shine.”

“EBOLA VILLAGE delivers a tense, old-school survival horror experience that prioritises atmosphere over action, and for the most part, it succeeds. While the story is light and the game could benefit from some additional visual polish, its unsettling environments, brutal combat and audio design do a great job of keeping the tension high whilst playing.”

“Ebola Village is a unique experience: on the one hand, it aims to capture the essence of classic survival horror games and embrace the nostalgia of first-generation titles, but on the other, its execution is...”
