How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 80 | 140 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 75% | 71 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 69 | 93 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 87% | 81 | 5 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“WWE 2K24 is a fantastically meaty package. The core gameplay feels really good, and there are so many different modes to frame that gameplay that you can easily spend an obscene amount of time on this release. At launch, the handheld gameplay experience was pretty horrible thanks to all sorts of weird graphical issues, but with those mostly ironed out the Steam Deck is now a perfectly reasonable place to play it.”

“WWE 2K24 is a solid fighting game that opens the door to the world of professional wrestling. Despite some frustrating moments and the game’s difficulty, it offers an entertaining experience for fans of the sport. With patience and practice, you can gradually master the mechanics and defeat stars like John Cena, for example.”

“While WWE 2K24 isn’t groundbreaking for the series, it still has a ton of features and elements to make it a great wrestling sim title.”

“WWE 2K24 is probably the most complete and refined edition to date, especially under 2K. It presents really fun and in-depth MyGM and Universe modes, and while its MyRise and Showcase modes could bring more to the table, its fun gameplay and focus on actual singleplayer fun starts slowly redeeming the franchise after some serious pitfalls in the past. Well, unless you are a PC player…”

“2K and Visual Concepts return again this year with WWE for the 40th anniversary of Wrestlemania, offering fans an enjoyable gaming experience that is definitely full of content, including MyRise, which features new storylines. Some issues remain unresolved in this chapter of the franchise, including the physics of long hair and interactions with objects under the ring, but overall they do not compromise the gameplay.”

“One again WWE2K24 is a positive move in the right direction. With fun gameplay mechanics and new match types that leave the door wide open for hilarity, this remains a no-doubt purchase for fans not only enjoying what is being put out weekly by WWE, but also thanks to the focus of Showcase mode this year, those who love a bit of history too. Just about Aweeee-ssssome.”

“WWE 2K24 is undoubtedly one of the best wrestling games in Xbox history, but it's also a game that prioritises incremental upgrades over any kind of major overhauls, so casual fans may struggle to justify a full-price purchase. As dedicated wrestling "marks" though, we think the new MyRise stories, superb improvements to MyGM, nostalgia-driven Showcase mode, additional match types and various gameplay adjustments are all worth the price of admission.”

“WWE 2K24 is a huge win for the series. If you look past the technical issues, you can see a full packaged game. However, the premier mode WrestleMania may leave you unsatisfied with how empty it can be.”

“Far removed from the haunted carnival ride that was WWE 2K20, 2K and Visual Concepts have settled into an extremely reliable groove. The amount of content on offer is absolutely staggering, with grapple fans certain to delight in at least one of the many available modes and 200+ available Superstars. Some visual inconsistencies and a somewhat lacklustre WrestleMania Showcase let the side down, but beyond that, WWE 2K24 is another strong, if safe, entry in the 2K-driven WWE series.”
