How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a title aimed at fans of the franchise and fighting games. With a fluid combat system that rewards mobility, as well as game modes that strike a balance between competitive and single-player experiences, it stands out as a robust gaming experience. Although the story is clearly just a pretext, it might be one that fans appreciate.

While light on features, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a solid 2D fighting title with fun & unique combat mechanics, clear love for the characters and source material, and has solid replayability on the online and competitive side of things.

Ultimately, a lackluster story mode and a lean launch roster can’t hold back what is easily one of the most mechanically refreshing 1v1 fighters I’ve played recently. Whether you're an FGC veteran looking for a gameplay-first experience or a casual Avatar fan just wanting to press some buttons and watch your favorite characters pull off incredible sequences in a gorgeously animated 2D fighter, Avatar Legends delivers where it matters most.

With undeniably gorgeous looks, and fast and intense play, this is a distinctive fighter, it just does a terrible job of getting you properly up to speed with its unique mechanics and the CPU is an unapologetic ass-kicker

As a fan of the franchise and an admirer of fighting games, I am very happy to attest to the quality of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. The character selection is quite respectable, and five additional characters have already been announced as DLC. The system is incredibly fun and very accessible, despite an apparent initial complexity.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is much more than the licensed fighter I expected. It’s a faithful adaptation with fluid combat and a rewarding Flow system that’s genuinely fun to learn. Each character feels distinct enough without being overly difficult to pick up, and while there are a few rough edges, particularly around tutorial discoverability and occasional visual clarity during combat, they’re minor issues that don’t take away from what is an easy recommendation for fighting game fans.

But unless you’re really committed to mastering all of the mechanics here, it feels difficult to fully recommend in its current state, not because it’s a bad game, but it just lacks the polish and features you’d expect from a more fleshed out product.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is an incredibly fun fighting game that shines thanks to its outstanding combat system, its faithful adaptation of the franchise, and its deep mechanics. While the campaign could have been better and the overall content is fairly limited, fans of the genre will find a highly rewarding experience. That said, it's also a very demanding game that requires dedication, time, and effort to truly master.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is like a dream for both fans of the franchise and fighting games. With good graphics, a complex gameplay and fan service, the game is a good addition to the genre, but it doesn't serve as an entry point to this fighting game universe - and considering how many Avatar fans haven't mastered this genre, that's a shame.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a very solid fighting game wrapped in a somewhat underwhelming package. For players looking for a fighter with distinct characters, creative mechanics, and plenty of depth to explore, there's a lot to enjoy. However, for more casual fans of the franchise or anyone looking for substantial content outside of competitive play, the experience can feel bare-bones, and the included story mode often feels half-baked. This is ultimately a game made for fighting game fans who also love Avatar, and those who fall into that category should find plenty to appreciate.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a great entry point for fans of the series who want to get into the fighting game community, and it has a lot to offer you if you want to put in the time and effort to master it. Each character is unique and feels good to play, and the developers have done an excellent job of adapting the style and charm of the franchise that not many other avatar games have been able to pull off. With more content on the way and the developers acutely tuned in to player feedback, I am confident it will stick around in the fandom for years to come, and I’m happy that Avatar fans have a great game to support and enjoy more content with their favourite characters.
