How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Once again we are dealing with a base that, despite the introduction of many changes in visible areas, after a longer interaction it shows, the same old habits as previous games. But I've had enough of clicking through yet another Motorsport competition or a deluge of minor Horizon activities. There's room here for Turn 10 and Microsoft to rethink initial player feedback and introduce cool events and modes that will differentiate this game from its family predecessors and the works of its opponents.”

“Perhaps one day I’ll get over my insecurity and lack of motivation around driving. Maybe I’ll get over any fear of harming myself or others in a freak accident, or I'll tire of taking commuter rails anytime I want to travel upstate and eventually take matters into my own hands. Until then, Forza Motorsport lets me feel the thrills of high-speed racing and, more importantly, gives me confidence that I can drive a car as well as the best of them. The game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it provides more of those amazing feelings.”

“The Forza Motorsport journey has come a long way, and it returns with slight innovations in the eighth installment. Sadly, however, there aren't that many, and more than a reboot, I wouldn't be shy to label it as an improvement on the seventh installment. While it's the most accessible sim, before it can teach new players more realistic driving, it overwhelms them with powerful assists. However, fans of the series will enjoy the game, especially if they play it with friends.”

“Forza Motorsport offers a wide range of vehicles and detailed graphics, which should delight fans of racing simulations. However, the assist systems and certain limitations in vehicle development may be a point of contention. Although the game runs fairly well and offers plenty of fun, we can’t ignore the issues it faces on the Steam platform.”

“Forza: Motorsport 2023 is both a fantastic racing experience and an example of everything wrong in the genre at the moment. the driving is better than ever and the visual design is fantastic but the soundtrack, lack of local play and the small number of bugs did detract from the overall experience. It's got a ton of amazing content that makes up for the issues, however, so it is a hearty recommendation to all motor nuts.”

“Forza Motorsport feels like a game that's set up for the future. The technical underpinnings on show in Turn 10's Xbox Series X|S debut are remarkable, and this sort of solid foundation is always a good start. While there's still hours and hours of fun to be had with what is here, genre fans will quickly be reminded of what's missing - making the new FM feel like a launch pad for what's to come rather than a complete experience at launch. When Turn 10 gets around to adding more unique career events, tracks and bonus features, this could become one of the very best sim racers ever to grace Xbox. For now, it's a brilliant effort that doesn't quite finish in first place.”
