How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 88 | 18 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 89% | 83 | 864 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 80% | 74 | 671 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Dark Deity 2 is not for the faint of heart. It expects you to learn, adapt, and think three turns ahead. But if you’re up for it, this game gives back tenfold. The tactical depth is phenomenal, the customization is unmatched, and the branching narrative paths make your choices matter. It’s not perfect. Some battles feel like padding. The story, while better than the original, still relies too much on text alone. But what’s here is gold for fans of Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, or Triangle Strategy. If you want a tactical RPG that doesn’t hold your hand and rewards smart play, Dark Deity 2 is absolutely worth your time.”

“Dark Deity was one of my favourite turn-based games of the last few years, Sword & Axe LLC are a developer very dear to my heart due to how they manage to keep such tried and tested genre mechanics feeling fresh and satisfying by creating such a rich and fully rounded gaming experience. This sequel effectively polishes and shines that robust core design into a game that feels even more inviting and satisfying to play. If you are a fan of Fire Emblem or the Shining Force series of games, this isn’t just a recommendation, it should be on the national curriculum! Awesome stuff.”
