How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Star Wars Outlaws is a smuggler with flaws that are easy to turn a blind eye to and be charmed by despite them. The cinematic story told keeps you intrigued until the end, the worlds are pleasing to the eye, and the gameplay offers a variety of attractions. Yes, there are problems, but they are not very painful, you can get used to them, sometimes you just need to grit your teeth and curse at the screen. The Force in this game turned out to be stronger than I assumed.

Star Wars Outlaws is a pretty good game with no shortage of flaws. At first glance it seems very impressive, but after a long time many systems begin to tire the player. The plot is an element that will probably divide fans, as there is a lack of interesting characters here, but the story idea itself is quite good. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of Star Wars then most likely you will still want to get acquainted with another story from this universe.

Ubisoft have marketed Star Wars: Outlaws as a AAAA experience. And I whole heartedly agree. It absolutely is… if AAAA stands for Absolutely Atrocious And Abysmal.

You just have to make peace with some of the game's quirks. And beyond that, Star Wars Outlaws is a good enough game in an established setting that will probably hold your attention up until the end credits.

Star Wars Outlaws is a brilliant open-world action game in one of the most iconic universes ever made. It combines all of the best from Ubisoft, brings it inside one game, and delivers it in a package that is fun to play and amazing to view. The worlds are beautifully designed, and the gameplay mechanics are fun and solid. Technical flaws aside, Star Wars Outlaws is a solid attempt by Ubisoft to really show how good they can make open-world titles. Massive Entertainment has delivered a world that feels alive while sticking true to the franchise’s tone. If you love Star Wars, this is a dream come true but if you are simply a fan of open-world games that offer tons of exploration and solid gameplay mechanics, you should definitely give Star Wars Outlaws a shot.

Star Wars Outlaws is an action-adventure game that, on the one hand, brings good and fresh ideas, but on the other hand, copies the same practices as every other Ubisoft game. While the game manages to create a vibrant world that any Star Wars fan will love as well as a fun reputation system, it flounders on generic gameplay and one-size-fits-all template quests. If you haven't played a game from Ubisoft in so long, you'll probably have fun. But if you're looking for anything more, Star Wars Outlaws simply isn't it.

Not a typical game for the Star Wars franchise or Ubisoft. There are some interesting ideas in it, but not all of them were implemented well. Still, for the most part, the game turned out to be quite fun, and Ubisoft will not be embarrassed by it. Even though some of us had hoped for more.

There are kinks in the game’s armor, like skittish enemy AI and a bunch of absolutely gratuitous cameos (you’ve been warned Solo haters). For all of its efforts to stretch out to forge its own identity, Outlaws can’t resist occasionally returning to the nostalgia well. But such grievances are likely to run off you like water off a duck’s back. In the end, everything here, down to the scaleable difficulty, clever upgrade system that bypasses usual RPG-levelling mechanics where skills and upgrades are tied into missions, and the surprisingly fun minigames, is so well executed that you’ll always feel like your wildest galactic scoundrel fantasy has been realized.

Star Wars Outlaws is a well-made game. As a major commercial project, it plays it safe, sticking to well-trodden paths, and probably won’t captivate anyone who’s thoroughly fed up with open worlds and has no connection to Star Wars. However, the opposite is also true. If you love stories from a galaxy far, far away, Outlaws offers plenty of both familiar and fresh-feeling elements that are a joy to discover.

The game does make an effort to strip away borrowed limbs, but then it's left with hollowed-out interiors of Ubisoft gameplay we've come to expect and bemoan over the last few years. It's as if Star Wars Outlaws occupies the negative space of other Ubisoft games. And while Outlaws sheds some of the flaws of its kin with that approach, it also brings issues that are entirely its own. It is marred by inconsistency, saved by its authenticity, and ultimately defeated by its mediocrity. Is Star Wars Outlaws a good Star Wars game? At times, absolutely yes. There are moments where it inarguably soars. But is it a good game? Outlaws inevitably stumbles on that question.

Star Wars Outlaws is a strong game that's pulled back by a few issues here and there. It does, however, suck you in and it's easy to get lost in side-missions and the day-to-day life of its many locations.

Even though unpolished, there’s a lot to enjoy in Outlaws. Sure, the game is plagued by some outstanding bugs and glitches, but when it works properly, it offers an interesting experience that does not heavily rely on the Jedi and the Force. It’s trying to do something new, fresh, and daring, and that is something worth praising it for.
