How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 85 | 5 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 92% | 87 | 1150 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 85 | 59 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 93% | 88 | 410 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“While certainly an interesting game, Metro 2033 won't be for every first-person shooter fan. However, if you enjoy a more thought provoking, story-driven adventure you'll most likely enjoy yourself. With all of the game's DLC included, there's a good amount of content to keep you busy.”

“Metro 2033 is a solid, atmospheric action-horror game that relies on a terrifying atmosphere with realistic settings rather than a complex story. It will delight fans of horror and survival games, but it won’t satisfy those looking for a breathtaking story and well-developed characters. Nevertheless, it’s an experience that no gamer or sci-fi reader should miss.”

“Metro 2033 Redux is a top-class first-person shooter/survival horror game, a breathless experience that's been almost flawlessly ported to Switch by 4A Games. Artyom's desperate, haunting voyage through the irradiated remains of Moscow is every bit as engaging today as it was when it first released back in 2010, and this Redux version benefits massively from overhauled AI, gameplay mechanics and visuals. In terms of first-person shooters or survival horror games on Nintendo's console, this is one of the very best.”

“Set in a post-Apocalyptic Russia, primarily taking place in the labyrinth of subway tunnels and other areas below the surface, Metro 2033 Redux is an atmospheric and pretty gritty first-person experience...”

“Between 2033 and Last Light, Metro Redux is a must buy for fans of the genre, fans of the medium, and fans of good stories.”

“Metro 2033 Redux is a masterpiece of atmospheric storytelling, rarely has a game built an apocalyptic world this convincingly, not through destruction alone, but through the people who survive within it.”

“One of the most atmospheric and immersive first person shooters of recent years becomes even better, by enriching its gameplay, normalizing its performance and enhancing its graphics, with the use of the latest 4A engine features. Its main disadvantage is the discontinuation of price discount for those who already own the original Metro 2033 upon official release.”

“This is the finest available version of an excellent, atmospheric game. It's still not perfect, but the Redux version irons out a significant number of weaknesses, adding some of Last Light's improved mechanics while also providing a welcome layer of visual polish.”

“Metro: Redux is a hauntingly beautiful game that will test your nerves as well as your trigger finger. If you want a definitive post-apocalyptic survival horror experience, I would definitely recommend the game. Also, in the winter, the game will turn your computer into a makeshift heater. What's not to love?”

“A valuable remake that makes the original Metro feel complete on PC.”

“Although it's a bit linear at times, Metro 2033 Redux excels in providing a first-person shooter experience with bountiful opportunities to make clever use of stealth.”

“I might have a few gripes with the Switch version of Metro 2033 Redux, namely the limitations imposed by the joycons and its insanely long loading times, but I need to commend how impressive it is to have a game of this scope running so beautifully on the Switch’s hardware.”
