“With resolution up to 4K when docked (with the help of DLSS) and 1080p handheld, MGS4 has never looked so good, either. You’re also looking at 60fps gameplay, which is just a joy. I went back to the PS3 version briefly after this, and yes, it’s a huge step up. The only thing missing that really ought to be added via a patch is gyro aiming. You’re forced into some fierce firefights in the campaign, so having that extra layer of control would be a great benefit.”

“As far as the core game goes, there's nothing truly terrible about Starsand Island, but there's not a lot unique either. The gameplay loop is pleasant, picking your own path is nice, and the menus were extremely helpful. It's a decent length at over 60 hours minimum – though with the slow load times and delays it can be much longer. In fact, the ubiquitous bugs and performance issues weigh the entire experience down.If you take away all the bugs, the game is reasonably fun. It's just hard to justify picking this one when there's a sandstorm of cute cosy farm sims on the eShop. Still, if the anime art style and gameplay loop grab you, I'd suggest waiting until the bugs get patched, or seeking it out on another platform.”

“Duskfade is the epitome of a flawed gem. There's an excellent game in here, but Weird Beluga hasn't quite managed to find it yet. Duskfade thus feels like a great 'proof of concept' release where, despite the jank, it provides a strong foundation for a potential sequel to build upon.Gorgeous graphical design, enjoyable platforming, and a heartfelt story all make this one a worthwhile endeavour, even if the combat can get tiresome and navigation frustrating. I'd suggest picking up Duskfade if you're feeling particularly nostalgic for the early-2000s era of gaming, though perhaps this is one to hold out for a modest sale before grabbing it.”

“Performance-wise, Oblivion Remastered may not sing as you'd hope on Nintendo's hardware, although the added control options are very welcome and it looks and sounds the part, even when the frame rate dips below the target 30fps.However, this is without a doubt one of the best RPGs of all time and the remaster gives the same old game a brand-new look. With the main quest and all additional content, it's huge value for money and well worth experiencing for the first time or revisiting if you've walked through this flaming gate before.”

“For a lesser game, hewing too closely to the formula established by other beloved giants of the genre often shines a spotlight on all the ways it pales in comparison. Lego Party tempts fate by being just a few bricks removed from the exact structure of classic Mario Party, but actually walks the walk with its own high-quality supply of intricate boards and delightfully wacky minigames.It also adds some smart features and twists of its own, to the point where I reckon it could soar to even greater heights if it were a degree less beholden to its clear primary influence. Regardless, Lego Party offers one heck of a good time and deserves a spot in your multiplayer party-game rotation.”

“While it is not the latest entry in the series, it is hard to deny that Jurassic World Evolution 2: Complete Edition is a game of incredible quality. The sheer amount of content here, from the base game to its included DLC, means this is a package with hundreds of hours worth of gameplay. Even though the core campaign mode is lacking, Chaos Theory stands out as the true centrepiece, and a highlight for longtime fans of the series.Although the lack of Joy-Con 2 mouse controls does stand out as a major missed opportunity, this is an otherwise well-done port and a very easy recommendation for all Jurassic Park and city management fans.”

“Kynseed is bountiful with tasks to do, NPCs to please, and lands to discover. Oftentimes that quantity seems to take priority over quality, though that doesn't always detract from the pops of dopamine you get when you complete a microtask.Stick with the lengthy Once Upon A Time and you'll be rewarded with open-ended options for play – running a business, foraging for plants and exploring the lands with your pet, to name a few. One can reach Happily Ever After in around 80 hours, but you're better off whiling away that time meandering along the many pebbled roads of Quill, onto whatever task it is you choose.”

“Big Walk is a game that is nothing short of outstanding in its design, a co-op adventure that feels like you're 12 years old again and venturing across those fields with your buddies.Its strict reliance on communication and clever puzzle design makes it one of the most rewarding games I think I've ever played, but its technical shortcomings on the Switch 2 version do take the shine off a touch. Thankfully, it's not enough to break what is one of the most unique and intriguing games released this decade, if you're willing to learn to communicate.”

“Truxton Extreme is not only an outstanding shmup, but it also sets a new benchmark for how to bring back cult series of the genre into the current age. Very high marks on graphical effects, sound design, and soundtrack along with spot-on gameplay makes it easy to recommend adding this one to your Switch 2 library as soon as possible. Both veteran shmup players and newcomers alike will find much to enjoy in this package.You also get an outstanding digital graphic novel to go along with your game. Toaplan's legacy is in the good hands of Masahiro Yuge, and if this is the shape of things to come, I couldn't be more excited for future Tatsujin projects.”

“Splatoon Raiders may be missing the series’ iconic Turf War, but what we have here is possibly the most variable and exciting game the series has ever offered. Regardless of your skill level or personal play styles, the game is able to cater to practically any taste, and all whilst delivering one of the most enjoyable gameplay loops on the console. It looks good, runs fantastically, and you can play practically the whole thing with friends if you wish. Not only that, but Nintendo’s flogging it for a bargain price. It may not push any boundaries within the genre per se, but it’s difficult to find anything negative to say about it, it really is a must-play for almost anyone.”

The tangled mystery of the death of Captain Mortuga is full of compelling twists and every suspect adds a surprise along the way. “Gecko Gods is a fairly low-priced indie made with love, and I respect the team and what they've achieved even if I was frustrated for a lot of the experience. Some people will love the novelty of playing as a gecko. For me, although I made my peace with the decision, I do wonder if a slightly different approach could have increased my own engagement and made me believe more in what I was being asked to do.It's difficult to tell whether some of my frustrations come down to simply taking the wrong turn – or whether I missed a single line of text somewhere that might have set me on a more reasonable path. But I don't think I missed anything. If you want a short puzzle experience, and you like the idea of playing as a gecko, then Gecko Gods may well be worth your time.”
