How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

If you want to feel like a football genius on and off the pitch, EA has the game for you this year. It's only dragged down by the menu's hard-to-understand technical imperfections and occasional FPS dips. Otherwise, though, it's the football we've been waiting for.

The on-pitch gameplay takes a few steps forward in the right direction, empowering the defensive side of the game, but FC 25 stops short of taking necessary strides towards meaningful upgrades that could change the game for good. The continued apathy towards career mode, however, remains the biggest complaint. Gaping cracks in the quintessential mode have repeatedly been ignored for surface-level improvements, as if a new coat of paint would change the fact that the underlying wall is rotting. EA Sports FC 25, disappointingly, opts to do the same, even though a foundational change is long overdue. Over the past few years, EA's long-running football franchise has essentially embraced a live service strategy, with minor seasonal upgrades rolled out annually to an audience hooked to its unethical commercial model. The only difference is that EA asks you to pay full price every year for a “new” game.

EA finally treated Switch owners to a feature-parity football game last year and EA Sports FC 25 continues this by adding the new modes also available on other systems. Rush, in particular, is a great new way to play a tighter, more action-packed version of football, and the expanded season rewards system means the game is less reliant on Ultimate Team, which is typically under-populated on Switch, to give players new tasks throughout the year. Performance is still underwhelming but this is otherwise the second solid entry in a row from EA.

Virtual recycling at its finest, FC does it yet again. This lowers the overall quality of the game and the company’s renown, each year without fail. It is still a pretty decent game, but it still doesn’t deserve a full price tag. It is time for a change or for the whistle to mark the end of the match.

Playing EA Sports FC 25 provided lots of fun. The new things are cool, the online matches go on withous problems, and crossplay guarantees rivalry beween people with different platforms. But I can’t look past all the technical issues, if not for them, the final grade would be higher.

FC 25 is here to add more to the already great FC formula, opening doors to creative innovations such as the FC IQ and Rush to further improve the gameplay in its different game modes.

All in all, FC 25 is not a perfect game. There are still areas which EA Sports could improve starting with making FUT less dependent on overpowered cards and capitalizing on FC IQ. [...] However, I enjoyed this iteration more because it honestly tried harder to add more about what I love: offline and online high-level football gaming with stellar production values. The improvements & attempts here made me come back to FC 25 moreso than usual, even if it's the only major console-centric football game in the market.

EA FC 25 is definitely a step in the right direction for the franchise, and it’s clear that EA genuinely wants to create the best football simulation in the world. However, Ultimate Team remains the centerpiece game mode, and year after year, it stays largely unchanged.

EA SPORTS FC 25 not only maintains the tradition of the series, but also reinvents itself, even if the Rush mode is not that great. However, with significant improvements in graphics and gameplay, focusing more on strategy, in addition to the inclusion of more teams, stadiums and leagues, EA SPORTS FC 25 is a great game for soccer fans. I don't know if I'm being too optimistic, but so far, my experience with the game, especially in Career mode, has been well balanced and immersive, something that EA took a while to start thinking about.

EA Sports FC 25 is a successful evolution, not a revolution, FC IQ brings real tactical depth, Rush is a welcome addition, and the career mode benefits significantly from its improvements, even if the question of added value over last year's entry remains difficult to answer definitively.

FC 25 is a game changer that may look the same on the top but will provide everyone with an interesting approach this time around. For all FUT players, the FC IQ will be a game-changer. For all casual players, the Rush mode will be a fresh venture. But overall, the graphics and experience still push on to be a truly next-gen football game that is authentic in and out. It's all the same, but better this time around.

With EA Sports FC 25, Nintendo Switch owners can look forward to the full range of new features, rather than a simple roster update. These include the addition of Rush mode, the new season system, women's leagues and gameplay improvements. If you don't feel that the console is at the end of its cycle during matches, it's quite a different matter in the menus and cinematics. Slowdowns are frequent, not to mention loading times, which remain a little long. For its part, the decision to separate the Ultimate Team market on the Nintendo console from other platforms considerably increases the frustration of building a team and taking on players. All in all, this is probably the only portable edition of this sports simulation, but if you own an Xbox, PlayStation or PC, it's best to opt for these versions.
