How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

The frankly embarrassing state of the PC version pushes things over the edge, however, turning a passable action game into something that really should be avoided for the foreseeable future. While it's still playable, and even enjoyable in a fair few instances, its baseline problems combined with the PC's unique setbacks make Arkham Knight fit for the price drop list.

I really do have tears in my eyes, our series of reviews of Dark Knight games comes to an end with Batman: Arkham Knight. The game itself is an epic conclusion to one of the best game series of the last decade, or, if you will, of the past ten years. It offers a compelling story, smooth gameplay, and breathtaking graphics, all of which make for an unforgettable experience. The biggest draws, the flawless voice acting and excellent controls, are just the icing on the cake. Despite its flaws, such as an overreliance on the Batmobile and occasionally very difficult puzzles, this is a game you can’t miss. As Batman would surely say while playing these games: “I am Batman.”

Clocking in at around 12 to 15 hours not including the wealth of side-quests and with a host content planned for the next six months (provided you paid for the season pass), Batman: Arkham Knight has more than enough to keep you hooked. Rocksteady claims that this is the final game in the Arkham series. While we find that hard to believe, there's no better way to end it than with a game like this.

Honestly, it's hard to see how they can fix Batman: Arkham Knight to a satisfactory degree, and it feels like a step too far to have even included this final chapter in the collection for Switch. A great ending to an amazing trilogy, but just completely broken for now.

The end of a trilogy the Batman Arkham series deserved. One of the most fun open world environments you’ll find in any game, mixed in with a good storyline and fun, but at times flawed gameplay.

Batman: Arkham Knight is a great ending to a terrific trilogy created with one simple rule in mind: if it's not broken, don't fix it. The game may be missing some of its gothic atmosphere and there are far too many batmobile vs tanks sequences but a well known gameplay formula does the trick again. My meeting with the Arkham Knight was extremely enjoyable.

Arkham Knight translates a very particular kind of Batman into a very particular kind of game, and when the developers are short-circuiting your play experience to tell a good story, there are some unthinkably good moments. When they are going through the motions of combat and high-concept comic bookery, there are some unbelievably terrible and laughable moments. Despite wading through the latter, my memories of the former are grand enough that I think they're worth getting to.

Rocksteady knows what to do with Batman, and brings us another superb game. Batmobile's addition could have been better, as well as some moments with some of the Dark Knight's legendary foes. However, there's no other current-gen, open world action game as exciting as Batman: Arkham Knight.

Batman: Arkham Knight works as a piece of summer blockbuster entertainment, even if it's not always pulling its weight as a game about being Batman.

This is definitely a series that has more mileage in it, for sure, and it is hopeful that Rocksteady decides that they do indeed have something to add in the future, for it would be a shame if this was the end of what has been a great ride.
