How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“The game's twist comes at great expense, because it leaves nothing else for players to discover in the nuance-less second act. ”

“Set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world, Shardlight is another great point & click adventure game from Wadjet Eye that might not have the greatest graphics, but tells a grounded story of scary, but possible future of mankind.”

“Shardlight manages to build its quirky post-apocalyptic world into something that will leave a lasting impression, though the same can’t be said for the story it tells.”

“Shardlight makes a great first impression - it looks like an old-school adventure game with interesting characters, a cool world and demanding puzzles. Unfortunately after some time the game focuses only on the story and neglects the gameplay. The technical side is ok, pixel art adds some charm, but all in all it's simply an "ok" game. Nothing more. ”

“It may start off slow, but Shardlight quickly develops into a truly gripping adventure, filled with high levels of intrigue on the story side, complete with some thoroughly inventive puzzles, and the trademark touch of class that WadjetEye Games brings to the genre, making best use of the Adventure Game Studio engine. There can be a bit too much back-tracking early on, but the balance is right, overall, preventing frustration from creeping in, especially thanks to the areas to visit being so close together and the intelligent map system in place, meaning that it is not too tough to revisit places to find things that were initially missed. All-in-all, this is another strong addition to WadjetEye Games' line-up.”

“A perfectly enjoyable adventure through a dystopian wasteland, though one that misses a lot of opportunities and leaves a lot of tantalising threads dangling. Tasty, but not quite satisfying.”

“Post apocalyptic dread, a society on the brink of revolution and The Reaper Himself stalking the poisoned skies. Shardlight combines the eerie splendor of Primordia’s abandoned wasteland with a poignant political narrative. Easily one of Wadjet Eye’s finest releases.”

“In many ways Shardlight is a typical WadjetEye adventure game - low-res graphics, common sense puzzle solutions, wildly imaginative, well written and hugely entertaining.”

“The new adventure of Wadjet Eye Games is a small masterpiece. Easy to complete, fit ascinates the player thanks to a deep plot and a protagonist admirably characterized.”

“Some of Shardlight’s ideas, like the eccentric and sinister Aristocrats, offer something original and enjoyable within a familiar context. With its refreshing take on an oligarchy and subtle religious commentary involving ravens, Shardlight has potential to be something a lot more profound and thrilling. Instead, it's a typical adventure game with an overly familiar premise.”

“An imaginative, atmospheric setting with great art and quality voice acting, but Shardlight is by no means a great adventure game.”

“Although it has some minor flaws, Shardlight nevertheless stands out as an excellent point & click adventure that pays homage to its predecessors.”
