How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 81 | 30 |
| Creator reviews (4 tracked) | – | 87 | 1 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 76% | 72 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 80 | 85 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 86% | 80 | 44 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Even with a somewhat disappointing final furlong, one can't help but be satisfied by what Mankind Divided has to offer. A solid story that manages to keep its more ridiculous elements in surprising check, tons of gameplay options with hours of optional material, and the simple satisfaction that comes with being a mechanical metahuman, the latest Deus Ex is possibly the most accomplished in the series, despite not being as complete as it seems it should've been.”

“Mankind Divided feels torn, and not just between the story-centric campaign and gameplay-focused Breach.”

“Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is one of the best games of the year and perhaps one of the best of its genre, although this “genre” is not clear, is it an RPG? Is it a stealth game? An action game? Or an FPS? It doesn’t really matter, what matters here is that it is a production full of quality and has a lot to offer for newcomers and veterans alike.”

“Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, like its predecessor, is a well-crafted game that fits perfectly into the Deus Ex series. The game combines FPS, RPG, stealth, and action elements, and the freedom to choose how you play it keeps things entertaining. Compared to Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, however, there’s a noticeable lack of freedom and a more limited scope, as evidenced by the presence of only two different endings and the fact that you face only one final boss.”

“Clocking in at around 25 hours, Mankind Divided is a fantastic entry in a franchise that's finally coming into its stride. If Human Revolution was the foundation for Adam Jensen's adventures, Mankind Divided builds upon it in meaningful ways. From a narrative standpoint, it's The Empire Strikes Back of cyberpunk video games - mandatory for fans and newcomers alike.”

“We've all been waiting for the fourth sequel of what is rightfully considered one of the best, if not THE best PC games of all time. How to reach the level of DeusEx is a question that Edios from Montreal yet again failed to answer perfectly.”

“Mankind Divided is a solid follow up to Human Revolution, but it does come at a price. While it definitely has the weaker overall storyline, and it left more questions than it did answer, it's hard to deny that the game will have its appeal for fans who love to explore environments to the fullest while also kicking ass and taking names.”

“It feels the need to address real-world issues, but in a way that's fast and cursory and only pretends at depth while trying hard not to make anybody unhappy. Deus Ex cares enough to sit on the sidelines and play topical for show before moving on to the next attraction. It's become more 24 than Blade Runner, and while it still entertains, it's also lost much of the luster that set the series apart from the serialized masses.”

“Deus Ex: Mankind Divided retains all of what made Human Revolution great and augments it. However, there isn't anything new and even has some gameplay mechanics that kinda take us back in time. Amazing for those who enjoyed the last installment in the franchise or those looking for an action RPG, with stealth options, a strong and mature plot and sophisticated gameplay. ”

“If this piece of software was judged solely on its gameplay, which, flawed as it may be, is very enjoyable, everything would be just fine... but Deus Ex isn't just the sneaking, hacking, and shooting; Deus Ex is about moral dilemmas, engaging conversations, multi-layered characters, a world with personality - it's about the plot and how everything revolves around it. Long story short: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a very good game, but a disappointingly forgettable experience.”

“Mankind Divided trades some global breadth for localised depth, setting the majority of its free-approach missions in Prague. The narrative feels closer to home too, thrusting Jensen in with the oppressed augmented masses. It's a strong sequel, reinforcing the mechanics of player agency and unique world design Deus Ex is famous for, but unresolved plot points do disappoint.”
