How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Megabonk is like so many other roguelike titles but it’s 3D gameplay and mix of chaos and absurd humor makes it such an exciting and addicting experience.

MegaBonk is not a revolutionary game, nor does it carry the ambitions of major titles, but it succeeds in one important thing: delivering an enjoyable experience that makes you say ‘just one more round’ before finding yourself playing for hours. Its simplicity, chaos, and randomness come together to form an addictive loop that’s hard to break. So if you’re looking for a quick, fun game that hooks you despite its simplicity, MegaBonk is definitely worth trying. A small game in size, but big in enjoyment.

Megabonk takes the familiar bullet heaven formula and gives it a bold twist, adding vertical movement and a fresh 3D perspective. Its audiovisual presentation is stellar, and once it gets going, the gameplay can easily keep you hooked for hours. While the music does lose its charm over time, it still stands as one of the genre’s most impressive recent releases.

Megabonk carves a spot among Survivors-like games, mixing its addictive core with Risk of Rain 2’s tension and a 3D twist that keeps you on your toes. Its goofy humor, banger soundtrack, and deep build options make every run a blast, even if limited stages and no weapon evolutions hold it back slightly. The varied characters and random upgrades keep things fresh, offering plenty of reasons to dive back in. If you want a Survivors-like game that feels new yet familiar, Megabonk delivers with fun vertical gameplay and tunes that stick with you. It’s an addictively satisfying roguelite that has me thoroughly hooked, and I will continue to come back post-review. With its low barrier of entry, it’s a must-try for fans of the genre and newcomers alike. Whether you’re playing in short bursts to wind down or telling yourself “Just one more run” after hours of play, there’s a Megaton of fun to be had with Megabonk.

MEGABONK is an addictively chaotic and surprisingly deep game that appeared out of nowhere. While I've pointed out some of its current flaws, for a game this affordable, it delivers a massive amount of content and pure fun. The game practically dares you to break it, a challenge I don't just accept, but one I revel in. I'm here for the chaos.

"A Chaotic Evolution of the Roguelike Horde Shooter" Megabonk is one of the most surprising roguelike games of 2025, blending sheer mayhem with meticulous skill in a hilariously madcap mix. Simple controls mask a surprising tactical depth, and random upgrades create a completely new experience every time. The low-poly visual style prioritizes clarity and energy over realism, while the vibrant sound design adds an unforgettable note of excitement and humor.

Megabonk is a smash hit. It's raw, addictive, and dangerously easy to lose yourself in. A game that steals your time and does so with such obvious arrogance that you almost thank and bow for being devoured by its machinery.
