How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

It’s not just another sci-fi shooter. It’s a survival-horror experience that respects the franchise, leans into its strengths, and finally gives fans the proper follow-up to Isolation they’ve been waiting for.

Alien: Rogue Incursion had a huge potential, where it could have delivered one of the best horror experiences in virtual reality, but unfortunately it totally botched it. Instead of focusing on one aspect, Survios tried to split the game into two genres, additionally ending with an unpleasant cliffhanger. It could have been so great, and in the end it came out barely okay.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition proves that even a title originally designed for virtual reality can work as a full-fledged game for a broad audience. The atmosphere of Alien is still very much alive here, dark corridors, nerve-wracking sounds, and the constant feeling that death is lurking around the corner. With a bit of exaggeration, it’s a successful blend of Alien: Isolation and Aliens: Colonial Marines that manages to entertain, and if you’re a fan of the series and haven’t had the chance to play the VR version, the Evolved Edition is the clear choice.

I had a good time with Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition. It finds a strong balance between the slower, more stealth-oriented gameplay of Isolation and the frantic action seen in Fireteam Elite, blending classic Alien combat with some light puzzle-solving.Visually, it lacks a lot of detail for my liking, but the faithful art design just about holds it together. Its biggest sin, however, is that the impact of the Xenomorphs quickly diminishes thanks to the frequency at which they appear. They also just look kinda goofy, I won't lie. Still, as a fan of the series, the story, atmosphere, and sound design hit the right notes for me.

Upfront, Alien: Rogue Incursion delivers exactly what you’d want from an Aliens-inspired VR game: the horror of being chased by these iconic movie monsters and the thrill of blasting them into green goo with your Pulse Rifle. But while this mission starts strong, it eventually spins its wheels, stretching out the experience for too long before ending on a disappointing cliffhanger, while it isn’t specified in the title, this is actually only Alien: Rogue Incursion Part One, with Part Two still on the way. Add in lots of technical issues and a huge accessibility shortcoming in not having teleportation movement options for people prone to motion sickness, and you have a much rockier ride than it initially appeared. With its high highs and low lows, Rogue Incursion is a little too accurate a microcosm of the Alien experience.

Alien: Rogue Incursion marks the franchise's debut in VR, leveraging this technology to amplify its hallmark sense of immersion. As the first chapter of a larger adventure, the game lays a promising foundation, though we hope its sequel will deliver a more polished and flexible structure to fully realize its potential.

Alien: Rogue Incursion was the best virtual reality experience I've had to date, it's a truly immersive and well-set game, and delivers an unprecedented story and an audiovisual experience with plenty of interaction and tactile responses, all in an atmosphere with terrifying tones, and enemies that intelligently use the different angles of the scenarios, there are times when it gives you chills.

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a solid first attempt from Survios to capture the iconic sci-fi franchise. If you're a fan of the series like we are, then you'll be giddy as you first get to hold your own pulse rifle; you'll shiver as your motion tracker's pulsating tone gets higher; and you'll revel in the disgusting details of the H.R Giger-inspired Alien nests. It is let down at points with repetitive and lacklustre combat, trivial performance issues, and its hard cliff-hanger ending does leave you with far more questions than answers. But you'll be hard pressed to find standout VR moments quite like the ones sprinkled throughout this fun campaign.

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a frighteningly impressive game that nails the tone of the series and is the title that could push the common perception of VR forward. The save system is a bit harsh, but the sheer immersion and fear that the game specializes in makes this a VR must-play.
