How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Whilst the action sequences are a bit much, everything else is incredibly well crafted and will ensure you have a brilliant time discovering the origins of the most famous British spy of all time.”

“007: First Light is a high quality experience that easily supplants GoldenEye 64 as the quintessential Bond game. Delivering every required component of the classic spy series and delivering a truly relevant storyline, it’s the very picture of what one might call a romp. Now that the origin tale’s out of the way, I’m very much looking forward to seeing more from this particular take on James Bond. ”

“Is 007 First Light a good James Bond story? Absolutely. But is it a good game? Of course it is. It’s a great blend of stealth and action with a very cinematic story that could easily fit into the main movie series. IOI really gets the character and the universe, and I hope they get the chance to make a sequel despite the obvious hints in the game.”

“007 First Light has the look, sound and occasional swagger of a Bond adventure, but once you start poking at its systems, the illusion quickly falls apart.”

“007 First Light is the perfect return of the world’s most famous secret agent, delivering an adventure worthy of the Bond legacy. Backed by excellent performances across its cast, the game excels at balancing thrilling action, explosive set pieces, and a compelling narrative that explores the origins of a young James Bond while immersing players in the shadowy world of espionage. IO Interactive has successfully leveraged its experience with the HITMAN franchise to create a Bond universe that feels both authentic and refreshingly original. More than just another adaptation, 007 First Light marks the beginning of a new era for the franchise and stands as the most significant Bond game since GoldenEye 007. Whether you’re a lifelong James Bond fan or simply enjoy sandbox-style stealth and espionage games with richly designed open-ended levels, 007 First Light deserves a place on your must-play list.”

“Despite minor flaws, the Danes have created a very vibrant, charming, and damn impressive game - 20 hours of it pass like a single moment. 007 First Light is a true summer blockbuster from the world of video games. And that's a compliment.”

“007: First Light is not only a great new interpretation of James Bond but a great game in general. While the combat of the game doesn't do much new, the incredibly engaging stealth segments and the near endless replay ability of this title will keep the attention of any gamer for the rest of the year. Do not miss out on this great spy title.”

“But being a highly trained super-spy should feel more intricate than being Nathan Drake does, and every time that First Light tries to be that, it feels half-hearted.”

“007 First Light isn’t just another run-of-the-mill game. It’s a 100% immersive, highly cinematic, and unexpectedly human experience that knows exactly how to captivate players from the very first minute. Personally, I was completely swept away by this ride. It offers a brilliantly written story, likable characters, a genius soundtrack, and flawless gameplay with minimal flaws. If you’re currently looking for an immersive adventure crafted with first-class care, this is a bull’s-eye. An exceptional game that proves that, after all, anything is possible with care.”

“IO Interactive has built something truly their own: a Bond game with genuine creative ambition, applying everything Hitman taught them about spy sandboxes with intelligence and restraint. If this is the first chapter of a new 007 saga, the wait for the next one has already begun.”

“IOI has done a fabulous job at making a great action-adventure game that just so happens to be wrapped up in James Bond clothing, and all that is expected of it.”
