How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.9, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 9,331 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

This cosy shop sim combines 2000s nostalgia, restoration mechanics and a turbulent storyline for hours of fiddly fun.

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is a great game and definitely worth recommending. My only real complaints are the music, which starts to get on my nerves after a while, and the storyline, which doesn’t fully live up to its potential. It’s also not a game I’d recommend to people looking for a precise and detailed electronics repair simulator. Because even though I’m no handyman or electronics expert, even I can see that in this regard, it’s not an overly realistic game. It’s more like playing with electronic Lego blocks, cleaning, repairing, and assembling them. But that doesn’t bother me at all. I wanted a relaxing, cozy game about assembling and repairing nostalgic electronics, and that’s exactly what I got.

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is one of those games that wins you over with the care put into every detail, not by trying to reinvent the genre.

ReStory is a wonderfully satisfying repair simulator that understands exactly what makes this type of game enjoyable. Every 2000s-era device is thoughtfully designed, the progression feels meaningful because you’re constantly acquiring practical new tools instead of chasing abstract skill upgrades, and the steady rhythm of taking things apart, cleaning them, and putting them back together never grows stale. There’s very little friction to disrupt the cozy atmosphere, but ReStory never relies on that coziness at the expense of meaningful and absorbing gameplay.

At this point in 2026 I have played a lot of video games for review, and I haven’t even begun to think about my GOTY list. But I can tell you right now, without a shadow of a doubt that ReStory: Chill Electronics Repair will make my list. I found myself just enthralled with the gameplay and its loop; earning money to get better licenses, especially for stuff I actually owned. I cannot recommend ReStory enough, its blend of great vibes, chill music and wacky customers is just what the doctor ordered for a quiet night in.

ReStory is a relaxing game that combines the laid-back sense of accomplishment from repairing things with a well-designed gameplay loop that keeps you coming back for more. It’s almost hard to believe that scrubbing down metal frames and twisting screws could be such a pleasant activity, but I can’t stop doing it to unwind. If you’re in the market for a chill game that scratches your brain in a totally unique way, you cannot miss ReStory.

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is proof that you don’t really need a compelling story when taking apart old gadgets is this darn satisfying. Its Y2K nostalgia, detailed machines, and addictive restoration work make it an easy game to sink hours into, even if its characters struggle to keep up. What’s important is the work in front of you, and that’s enough to send you into a flow state of endless tinkering.

ReStory is a chill repair shoppe simulator. It’s got a fairly accurate representation of how devices are actually repaired pat down, accompanied a pleasant visual style and a strange little story that moves along as you build up your corner store. Perfect for the dood that loves making old hardware talk or someone who just wants to get through their audiobooks but has the attention span of a cat sitting near a laser pointer and a box of treats.

For a simulation title, ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is exceptional, giving you a great simulation of a very niche idea in an even more niche setting. That being said, the game’s main mechanic could use more complexity, and the loop can get a bit repetitive and grindy, making the game best enjoyed in short bursts.

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is one of those simple indie games that knows exactly what it wants to offer. Repairing old devices is surprisingly entertaining, especially thanks to the care with which they’ve been recreated, while its 2000s setting and story make great use of nostalgia.
