How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 85 | 14 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 97% | 92 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 84 | 11 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 98% | 94 | 6 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 91.3, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 4,906 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“One of the best remasters we've seen so far, Day of The Tentacle Remastered retains everything that made the original release brilliant, avoiding the trend of changing the formula that works so well.”

“A masterly remastering of the LucasArts classic. If you haven’t yet contended with Earth’s vilest extremity, it’s time to finally embrace the Day of the Tentacle.”

“Many will think that Psychonauts was Tim Schafer's last good game and right now he's preoccupied only with remastering his former glory. But if all of the planned remakes will be as good as Day of the Tentacle I'm fine with that. This classic, eternally enjoyable point'n'click adventure game offers tons of satisfaction and even after more than 20 years is still a game to look up to.”

“Both Maniac Mansion and its sequel, Day of the Tentacle, are highly regarded even after all this time, and with good reason. This remastered edition of the second title is a welcome return for a highly enjoyable - and comical - point-and-click romp that would otherwise be completely overlooked in today's modern gaming world. Even in this form it might well be shunned just because of its genre, but that would be a mistake. It may no longer be King of the Hill, but it is still a mighty fine adventure, filled with smart quips, amusing one-liners, and some crafty puzzles.”

“A sterling example of the point-and-click genre, this revitalised classic continues to exceed expectations more than twenty years after its initial release. A must-have for fans of the original and a great point of entry for anyone new to the formula, Day of the Tentacle Remastered harbours a fantastic charm that can scarcely be found elsewhere.”

“This time Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions did exactly what needed to be done. They carefully improved and modernized the visual and sound aspects, as well as the interface, of an exceptionally well-designed game, left its other elements untouched, just like they should do, and successfully gave a new breath of life to this beloved adventure game.”

“Day of the Tentacle Remastered is a solid port of an excellent cult classic. The new features are largely for the best, although some annoying bugs drag down the experience. The game has aged relatively well, but the humor is fixed at a specific point in the early '90s. The puzzles are creative and clever, if sometimes obtuse. It's easy to see why Day of the Tentacle is considered one of the SCUMM engine's finest. It's not a game for everyone, but fans of old-school adventure games or Loony Toons-style humor will find a lot to like here. Gamers both young and old should get some laughs out of this quirky classic.”

“A welcome opportunity to return to one of the all-time greats, even if the remaster doesn't hit the same heights as the adventure.”

“Day of the Tentacle Remastered is a great presentation of a solid LucasArts adventure title.”

“While nowhere near as ambitious an undertaking as Grim Fandango Remastered, there is obviously a lot of love and care that has gone into Day of the Tentacle Remastered. There are most certainly still the same old gameplay warts that came from that era of gaming that don’t really translate well and some minor rough edges to the remaster, but it’s well preserved and the updates to presentation are marvellous.”

“Even after 23 years, Day of the Tentacle is still the same good adventure game. The time that passed since the release of the original version didn't hurt the game and it still offers plenty of humor, nice puzzles, good voice acting and hours of entertainment. The younger audience may not be fully satisfied, but every single player should still try it.”

“One of the best point ‘n’ click adventures of all-time still has much to teach modern gaming in terms of puzzle design and engaging characters.”
