How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

While that core combat is still strong, I'm personally getting a bit weary of Tekken relying on it's barely changed core combat to keep it relevant in a world where fighting games are fast evolving into vastly more rounded products. Tekken 7's combat isn't bad, it's just a bit stagnant, and I don't know how much longer it can get away with that reliance on not fixing what ain't broke.

Tekken 7 is a great addition to the series especially after T6. The game was able to bring new features, keep all of its advantages... and some disadvantages. The combat system is still based on the juggling and despite the low barrier to entry, has great potential to study the many nuances. The seventh part is perfect not only for fans of the series, but to all the players who missed the mechanics of three-dimensional fighting games. Additionally, the project can be recommended to achievement hunters. If you make an effort, you can get a Platinum trophy in just one day.

Overall, this is a title that has stood the test of time and all the additional content is, in my opinion, justified. In addition to DLC, players also received updates that corrected not only bugs, but also the user interface for example, or supplied cosmetic accessories for free. Tekken 7 takes the recommendation of 8 points, which is a respectable number. It definitely ranks among the best games of its genre.

Tekken 7 almost reached an amazing quality of Tekken 3 and Tekken 5. It's one of the best entries in the series and can be recommended to both hardcore players and newcomers. With “easy to learn, hard to master” model you can spent dozen of hours training, fighting and training again, only to dig deeper into core mechanics and become a little bit better. Get ready for the next battle!

The game pays compulsory lip service to everything that's not about getting pro players online.

I really wanted my favorite beat'em up series to reclaim the throne. Unfortunately, right now Tekken 7 hasn't got enough content and polish to do so (plus the competition - Injustice 2 - is fierce!). The fighting system is still superb but the entire game looks outdated. The story mode is poor, the online modes are now a a joke and there are some things missing as compared to the previous games.

Hiding somewhere underneath the murky waters of the story is some of the best fighting action Tekken has ever delivered. Fights are an absolute joy to dive into, whether it's against the AI, against pals on the sofa, or against strangers online, and the diverse cast of fighters means there's someone out there for everybody. I just wish Tekken 7 didn't like the sound of its own voice so much.

Tekken 7 has continuist gameplay options, not as innovative as we would like, although fair enough to keep us entertained for several hours, with many unlockables that add layers to character customization. Bandai Namco offers the well-known gameplay mechanics of the franchise and offer new aspects like Rage moves, although it offers an unamusing story mode, and several new characters with lack of carisma and not so well designed. Franchise veterans will be the ones to fully enjoy it.

It plays like Tekken, it feels like Tekken, it looks like Tekken… and that's because it is Tekken, therefore, don't go in expecting something new and exciting. Thankfully, that doesn't mean that this isn't a very good fighter, as it's actually one of the most fun and balanced available in the genre, as long as you don't mind its strong mid-'90s 3D fighter vibe.

Overall, Tekken 7 is a great addition to the franchise. It mixes things up enough to keep the gameplay fresh but at the same time, keeps things familiar for older fans.
