How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“While Circuit Breakers attempts to revisit the glory days of the top-down twin-stick shooters, it does not purely reflect the fun and insanity of those older games. Frustration creeps in when the barrage of enemies grows completely out of control, while killing them all requires burning all the ammo and breaking down the weapon. As far as the weapon variety goes, the machine gun, shotgun, laser, and rocket launcher offer different dimensions to the combat in terms of visuals, but they still play out the same way: run, aim, and shoot. It does have four-player couch co-op, which is fun for a few hours, and that's really the only way to play this game, although the fun will quickly run out.”

“Still, a handful of flaws aside and in light of its highly modest price tag, Circuit Breakers still reliably offers a lot of entertainment. It's clearly not perfect, but in a world increasingly dominated by time-consuming, social-life ruining games, it can sometimes be a lot of fun to hop back in time with a tight, ultra-responsive twin-stick shooter whose humble charms magnify in the presence of friends.”

“This one's easy. Do you like shooting robots? Could you play a game where you continuously shoot robots with no other clear goal? If the answer is yes, then this may be for you. If you require something deeper then you may want to pass on this one.”

“If you like twin-stick shooters with a big focus on gameplay and fast-paced action with enough of a challenge to keep you coming back for more, then you can't go wrong with Circuit Breakers. The game is available for less than five bucks, and it will certainly be a fun ride. This is an experience best served in short bursts at a time, before you dive into marathon sessions of frantic twin-stick action, so do keep that in mind!”

“Circuit Breakers is incredibly good fun. It might not entirely scratch my gaming itch but if you've got a love of arcade action or you're after a pick-up-and-play game to dive into for a few minutes at a time, Circuit Breakers is absolutely the time-waster for you.”

“Circuit Breakers is supposedly inspired by Smash TV, but I can't resist the feeling that Smash TV was way more than just an inspiration. The game seems to take classic's concept and adapt it to the second decade of 21 century.”

“Overall, Circuit Breakers is a decent arcade shooter with a nice retro style aesthetic. I wish there was more variety and more extras, considering there are a good amount of titles similar to this already available on consoles and PC, and because of this it becomes hard to fully recommend as a purchase. You are pretty much getting a very basic twin-stick shooter missing any type of style or personality. However, if you are looking for a new local arcade shooter to play with friends, this may be what you are looking for.”

“Circuit Breakers is a fun arcade-style twin-stick shooter with a good variety of characters, each with his/her/it's distinct weapon, which makes each one feel different. The game offers some mindless fun right from the start, and more than enough content to make it a worthy contender for your time and money. The game also offers multiplayer for up to four players in case you have some friends who can join you, making this the perfect game for those of you with friends who don't game much, all they have to do is move with one stick and shoot with the other. How hard can that be?”

“With Circuit Breakers, what you get for your money is a very, very basic twin-stick shooter that is missing a lot of what makes the best in the genre so special.”

“Circuit Breakers brings back the old arcade feelings with simple, yet fun, mechanics. It lacks some content and it gets repetitive when we advance in the game, but it can give the players some hours of entertainment.”

“Circuit Breakers manages to recapture some tropes of classic twin-stick shooters but sadly their fun factor wasn't one of them.”
