How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 73 | 6 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 85% | 79 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 77 | 8 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 70% | 67 | 6 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“"Deponia" is full of humor, funny puzzle-solving, and with a setting that I thoroughly enjoy in fiction. For anyone who likes point-and-click adventures, this series is one for you.”

“A must-play for fans of the Deponia series and adventure game fans in general. The latest in the Deponia series is as witty and gorgeous as its predecessors, but just on the verge of stretching the series too thin.”

“Surprisingly Deponia Doomsday is the most interesting and complex installment in the series. This is a well written sequel with very pretty levels, great soundtrack and some really demanding puzzles. The entire game is very funny as well and looks like a an expertly crafted piece of code. Must-have for point & click fans.”

“If you're a big fan of the bygone heyday of the point and click adventure games the Deponia trilogy is well worth checking out...”

“It won’t mesmerize people who did not like its predecessors. It may even not satisfy all those who enjoyed the previous three Deponia games. Essentially it’s a love letter to the sworn followers of the saga, who won’t refuse to participate in yet another adventure of Rufus.”

“I can’t give Deponia Doomsday an unequivocal recommendation. Its protagonist is a major drag and a lot of its humor is straight-up lame. But by the same token, I can’t deny that it drew me in and made me care by the end. It’s a totally solid adventure game, and if you prefer a little extra bite in your old-school adventures, then it will be right up your alley.”

“Deponia Doomsday is a humorous nonsensical narrative-based point & click adventure that will challenge players to understand its absurd world, figuring out puzzles and minigames. If you are into these kind of odd themes, it could well be a very enjoyable trip. Else, your mileage may vary.”

“For me, I can't help but feel like Deponia Doomsday needed to reset time just once more to undo some of its irritating writing and design so that the good qualities could shine through even brighter.”

“The fourth installment in the Deponia trilogy sticks to its point-and-click roots, with the same oddball humor, while the walking disaster that is Rufus tries to alter the past to save the future.”

“While Deponia still remains a satisfying experience, this Switch edition is quite disappointing. Far too much expensive, as the Steam version of the game is nearly free today, it also contains some graphic or major glitches. Also, where are the sequels ?”
