How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 79 | 18 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 90% | 84 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 82 | 24 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 89% | 82 | 41 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Ghost Town Games avoids the flavorless death known as repetition, and doesn't overcook the game's premise.”

“The game is very likeable, oozes with humor and apart from slightly higher difficulty, isn’t frustrating. Still, controllers and friends are mandatory. It takes a lot to make a stew and Overcooked’s is more than satisfying.”

“Overcooked presents itself with very few issues and a good amount of fun. Even though the solo gameplay is a lesser experience compared to the frantic 4 player co-op which spawns both hilarious and frustrating moments.”

“A very solid and fun multiplayer experience. It works in singleplayer but really shines in multiplayer. The level design and style make it stand out. If only cooking were this fun in real life.”

“Aside from a few minor presentation and performance niggles, Overcooked is a wonderfully executed game, and is one of the best co-operative experiences in recent years. The simplicity of the controls and gameplay make it extremely accessible, while there is still plenty of challenge in the later, crazier kitchens. Working together effectively with a few buddies feels fantastic, and even when things get a bit heated, it's all part of the fun. If you're looking for a light-hearted couch co-op game, Overcooked should definitely be on your menu.”

“Overcooked is delightful and appropriate for players of all ages. The core mechanics are solid, the cooperative gameplay is enjoyable, and it's a great game from start to finish. Perhaps the only real complaint one can level against it is that the single-player gameplay isn't as enjoyable as the multiplayer. It's simple enough that even people who don't usually play games can pick them up in a heartbeat, making it a great title for families to play together. Overcooked is a charming experience and a fantastic purchase for anyone looking for cooperative local games on the PC.”

“Overcooked contains all the necessary ingredients for a truly excellent co-op game.”

“There isn’t much to write about this, it’s a solid game that’s really fun as a co-op game for a games night/party and a nice family game after the Sunday roast. Video options weren’t key for me, especially if it’s not demanding on the system. But, the caveat to the high score is if it were have sold itself purely as a single player game and at the same RRP, then it might have the issue of being undercooked.”

“Crafting a game that feels like a true co-operative experience is something studios continue to struggle with even today. For a dev duo like Ghost Town Games to come along and nail it at their first attempt is a remarkable feat to say the least. As a result, Overcooked is easily the best co-op game of 2016 so far and will hopefully set living rooms afire with its accessible, often hilarious culinary hijinks. It’s certainly a game I’ll continue to revisit, roping in anyone willing to sit down and pick up a controller.”
