How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 79 | 10 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 87% | 81 | 535 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 79 | 4 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 1 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Unforeseen Incidents is a great-looking title that provides tremendous detail in the graphics and great voice acting. Some gameplay aspects could be improved but all things considered, it is a good point-and-click game.”

“If you are in the mood for some brain puzzles, Unforeseen Incidents can be a good choice for you this month. It builds great atmosphere through the story, characters, and voice acting. Animations are lacking and quality of graphics can wary, but that is something acceptable in this genre. If you are a fan of P&C adventure games, you should not miss this one.”

“Unforeseen Incidents is a complete breath of fresh air in what is fast becoming an over-crowded genre once more, standing head and shoulders above many other point-and-click adventures available. With its perfect mix of macabre and comical scripting, as well as the highly engaging puzzles and entertaining fetch quests it throws the player's way, the hours really do fly by despite this being one of the longer journeys on the market right now.”

“With the classic point-and-click adventure genre in full-on renaissance mode and a preponderance of options available to fans on the Switch it’s getting tougher to separate the merely average titles from the good to great ones...”

“Featuring a well crafted, mystery fuelled plot informed by an intriguing cast of characters, Unforeseen Incidents is a distinctive and engrossing point and click adventure. You can tell a lot of work has gone in to making the Nintendo Switch version of this title and it pays off in a fluid, accessible experience. A few foibles here and there are the only blemishes on an otherwise very enjoyable game.”

“Surprisingly good point & click adventure game with decent story and simple yet delicious gameplay. ”

“It’s quirky and beautiful, but isn’t revolutionary by any means. The story is predictable, but the voice acting, art, and dialogue more than make up for that. If they made any sort of spin off short film to this game, I think it would be a great idea and I’d support it 100 percent.”

“Unforeseen Incidents proudly displays the “I Want To Believe” poster on its wall and boasts virtually irresistible artistic design. The puzzles are rock solid and will please the hardcore, challenge-starved adventure gamers of yore. The story sticks a bit too close to tried-and-tested conspiracy theory clichés and is the one element that keeps the game from attaining ‘modern classic’ status.”
