How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 50 | 3 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 48% | 50 | 304 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 54% | 56 | 2 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Inner Chains is a four-hour interactive journey into the world of fantasy of Tomasz Strzałkowski, devoid of motivation, balanced gameplay and an interesting story.”

“Inner Chains is visually stunning, but stunningly boring.”

“This game really had a lot of potential and at first I thought it would be the older brother of the anticipated Scorn, but Inner Chains is an example of how to kill great potential. The price of 20€ is really considerably inadequate, especially since the game can be played at ease and 100% in about two hours.”

“Inner Chains’ excellent art style is its only redeeming feature, as Telepaths Tree’s debut first person shooter suffers from awful gameplay, poor storytelling and widespread performance issues.”

“Inner Chains is a beautiful game with a promising setting, but it ultimately underdelivers in too many key places to stand out.”

“Inner Chains tried to introduce something new, but it did not end up like the authors envisioned. And that's definitely a shame, because the game had a plenty of potential.”

“Inner Chains has the most impressive dark and surreal environmental art design, but the rest of the game feels incomplete. Inner Chains is a long shot with potential. I highly recommend you to sit tight and wait for fixes, patches and updates which will make the game enjoyable and most importantly playable, hopefully. In its current stage, it won't be able to meet the expectations created by trailers and screenshots which we've all seen before the launch.”

“The art and setting of Inner Chains in incredibly beautiful and detailed, I often would stop and just look around everywhere there was an overlook because everything was so breathtaking. There’s so much detail in every part of the game it’s impressive. Unfortunately, all this detail might be a reason I had some issues with the performance of the game. My computer isn’t top of the line anymore, it’s a few years old at this point, but it also isn’t a toaster and there were a lot of areas where the background would be flickering. In addition to this, I had significant drops in FPS while playing where things would suddenly grind to a bit of a halt.”

“Inner Chains has gorgeous visuals and its artistic style is wonderful, but its poor gameplay makes it an almost unplayable game.”

“Welcome to Inner Chains, a slow and slightly cutthroat excursion into the depths of suffering and horror.”
