How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 80 | 15 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 95% | 90 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 83 | 26 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 95% | 89 | 46 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.8, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 26,669 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“In short, if you are an artistic soul who likes well-built worlds and philosophical questions arising from an interesting story, go ahead. Otherwise avoid the game because you will be disappointed.”

“FAR: Lone Sails is not long, very simple game, but with perfect rhytm and surprisingly addictive process. So much that you'll want to beat it in one session. And, perhaps, to start anew, it will not reveal something new and will not offer challenges, but it is very pleasant to swim along the waves of its melancholy. Kind of like to read a nice poem and then go over it.”

“The game takes so much more than it gives, forgetting that a journey isn't simply about the means of travel.”

“FAR: Lone Sails is a relaxing adventure game with a unique art style, enriched with logic puzzles and challenges, in which you play as a tiny girl uncovering the tragic fate of a parched world. The main focus of the game is controlling your metal vehicle, which is interesting at first, but later the actions become repetitive without anything new, leading to a slight sense of monotony. Over the course of about three hours, you’ll embark on a journey through a beautiful world that feels more like a work of art than a game.”

“The console port of Okomotive's debut is contemplative, lovely, and over too soon.”

“Without saying a word, FAR: Lone Sails conveys a poignant tale of hope and perseverance, masterfully balancing style with substance for an experience that feels every bit as sublime as it looks. Sure, you could grumble about the shortness of the experience, the occasionally obtuse puzzles and the very, very minor control issues, but these problems dissolve away once you're invested in the journey. We highly recommend that you give this a spin.”

“It's not about the destination, but about the journey, as an ol' sayin' goes that FAR Lone Sails captures perfectly. With so little, this game delivered so much on different levels and provides unique experience, feel and vibe. Embark on this epic, yet short, voyage in peculiar locomotive vehicle that will be your mobile shelter and "home".”

“A side-scrolling vehicle adventure with a platformer’s stylish detailing, FAR: Lone Sails is a simple but charming little ride that gradually builds up momentum and never loses its way.”

“This is one of those titles where I walked into the experience not really knowing much about it, being surprised by it being something quite different, and coming away very impressed...”

“FAR: Lone Sails is an emotive trip through a dying, yet beautiful world. It's a journey that doesn't last for long, and whose low replay value makes it hard to come back to it... and yet it's also one that's hard to let go once you start it. Fans of such games are definitely advised to give it a go - oh, and don't wait for a discount because its worthy of its price tag as it is.”

“FAR: Lone Sails is a lovely title. Remarkable environments and a strong art direction anchor a brief but compelling title. While the puzzles and amount of resources never really hit a point to make anything truly challenging, the resource management loop is more satisfying here than it usually is in more survival-focused titles.”
