How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

World War Z VR delivers what it promises, a faithful yet reimagined take on the franchise’s signature horde battles, optimized for VR’s unique strengths. The swarm tech is breathtaking in a headset, weapon handling feels great, and the performance is rock solid even in the most chaotic moments. It’s not perfect. The AI squadmates are lackluster, environmental interactivity is minimal, and the loop can get repetitive after a few missions. But if you want a focused, adrenaline-pumping VR shooter that shows off what the medium can do, this is an easy recommendation.

World War Z is another example of an impressive "I can't believe they got that on Switch" game. The entire experience is fully fit onto the Switch, with tons of zombies on screen and plenty of action all around. World War Z suffers from being very repetitive and, at times, boring, with a story that is fairly generic and uninteresting. It's also less fun to play alone than it is to play with friends. That said, if you're looking for a decent zombie shooter than will technically impress, then World War Z may be your game.

It will brighten up a few evenings, but it is unlikely you will stay here for a long time.

World War Z is an unremarkable zombie shooter that serves up a decent five-odd hours of action if you can find a few friends to play with. It's repetitive stuff; basic and unsurprising for the most part, but this Switch port is solid, managing to provide the full-fat experience without too much in the way of technical issues or other shortcomings. If you're in the mood for blazing through bland masses of zombies with a few friends in tow, this one's got you covered, just don't expect much more than that.

Since it has been quite some time since Left 4 Dead and its sequel were released way back when, people like me have been jonesing for something more modern that could attempt to scratch that itch...

At first glance, there was little promise here. A movie tie-in to a pretty bad movie, so long after it, and clearly taking more than inspiration from another existing popular franchise? Yet, what at first seems like just another shallow Left 4 Dead clone reveals itself to be so much more, it feels more a true successor to its inspiration, definitely one to pick up for groups of friends looking for a new game to enjoy together, even more so for the Left 4 Dead fans out there. If the stability issues can be resolved, this is going to superb and needs to be on more people's radar.

World War Z lays a solid foundation for future content, gameplay expansions, and DLC (free or not). The gameplay loop is fun, although repetitive, it delivers a frantic moment to moment shooting experience.

World War Z VR is a title that delivers on almost everything it promises in terms of horde-based action and delivers some pure adrenaline-pumping moments, especially for those who simply want to shoot nonstop at hundreds of enemies.

The level and character design is something to marvel at with World War Z, but it gets bogged down in its flaws. There's a good game buried in here but first impressions aren't stellar, and promises of updates don't do much for a fully released game with very noticeable problems.

World War Z has all the makings of a good co-operative experience thanks to its comprehensive class and weapon variety, but its objective-based gameplay can’t quite live up to the same standard. You’re sure to find enjoyment in fending off swarms of the undead and the multiplayer is a real highlight, but it's unlikely to pull you away from better multiplayer titles for long.
