How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 67 | 7 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 77% | 72 | 905 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 65 | 5 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 40% | 45 | 1 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Odd design choices and an unsatisfying yet incredibly demanding gameplay loop mar a game that boasts the cutest plant people in video games. A crafting and survival sim with added base-building, Drake Hollow is not compelling enough to justify the demands it makes on the player or the lack of reward even when you manage to do what it asks.”

“Drake Hollow is great fun with faster paced gameplay than most survival games.”

“An enjoyable adventure settled in a fantastic world, with creatures that call out for help, really inspired and funny.”

“There's a few hours to be whittled away in Drake Hollow. And can be a good blast with a friend or two, as it helps to mitigate the constant need to return to base, allowing for an explorer to do their thing, a builder to do theirs, and a battler their own. Unfortunately as a solo experience, it erred more toward frustration because of the timed mechanics.”

“With a story that didn’t grab me, repetitive gameplay, and some game-breaking bugs, Drake Hollow is really only left with its charm to lean on.”

“Drake Hollow is beautiful and adorable, but its combat mechanics and repetitive structure become frustrating.”

“If you can find some people to play with, it's good. It doesn't feel great when you play alone.”

“Drake Hollow can be bisected into its survival and combat gameplay elements. On one hand, survival and building aspect is very enjoyable, there is something rewarding about a base growing from nothing into a beautiful, drake living paradise, and seeing the drakes go about their business to entertain themselves. But the other side of its core gameplay, the combat, is painfully lacking, making combat quickly turn from exciting to repetitive, with nothing available to spice up the threat of the game’s feral enemies. It is a shame that Drake Hollow could not bring more in-depth combat, because everything else about the game is enjoyable, and as a bonus, it has a stellar visual design and cute plant people to warm up your heart.”

“Drake Hollow's overall gameplay and presentation make it a joy to experience, though the balancing for the endgame is in need of serious work.”

“Drake Hollow on Xbox One is one of the hardest games to put down this year. It has a brilliant set of systems that keep you engrossed in the action and invested in your personal world. There are plenty of Drakes to meet, unique items and buildings to craft, and battles to be won.”

“A charming and entertaining survival game, with some totally lovable tiny creatures and good and well-balanced mechanics that will please newcomers to the genre too.”
