How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“As far as I’m concerned, Dark Envoy is a very well-made game. It offers countless ways to make decisions and steer the story in different directions. There’s a pretty nice selection of characters and classes. This lets you build a party that perfectly matches your preferences and needs. Add to that the beautiful graphics for both the environments and the characters. Throw in a bit of humor between the siblings, and you’ve got at least twenty hours of entertainment, which isn’t bad at all. Even so, there’s definitely room for improvement, and I firmly believe that the developers at Event Horizon will do something about it.”

“Dark Envoy is a tactical RPG that tries to implement interesting ideas and features that make it somewhat redeemable, but its lack of an intriguing story, uninspired characters along with repetitive conquests get the best of it. Even though a lot of port issues have been addressed in its full release, some of the issues still remain prevalent as they were in its review build. Nevertheless, if you are new to the genre of tactical RPGs, Dark Envoy would be a decent place to start.”

“The new isometric RPG from the creators of Tower of Time looks interesting at first glance, but a closer look reveals its flaws. The most interesting are the fights in real time with the possibility of slowing down. Overall, though, the game feels unfinished.”

“Dark Envoy has interesting gameplay mechanics locked behind some of the worst presentations I’ve seen in a while. It felt like the team behind the game was missing a few core pieces to make something special; With some better writers, animators, and artists, this game could have been a new favorite. As it stands, however, it’s an okay game with a lot of hiccups you have to look past to enjoy it.”

“While it wouldn't be fair to compare the two games directly given the vastly different budget, it's undeniable that, if one is looking for a single cRPG to play in the near future, Dark Envoy couldn't be recommended over Larian Studios' masterpiece. On the other hand, if you've already exhausted everything there is to do in Baldur's Gate 3, Dark Envoy could offer you a new interesting cRPG to go through.”

“While Dark Envoy has some interesting class and skill systems, this CRPG's tedious encounter design, forgettable characters, sluggish narrative, and bevy of performance issues make it a difficult game to recommend.”

“Dark Envoy è un CRPG interessante che possiede alcune feature buone come la personalizzazione, dei difetti non sempre trascurabili come un'IA lacunosa, un combat system che non riesce esprimere il suo potenziale, una storia debole e, forse, anche un'ambizione che sembra frenata dalle ristrettezze imposte dalla sua indole indipendente.”

“If you want a CRPG experience that feels a little less complex than many, you could do worse than check out Dark Envoy's colourful fantasy world.”

“Dark Envoy isn’t without its strengths. The class system and skill trees lend themselves to interesting character builds and adventure party variety. But Director’s Cut or not, Dark Envoy simply had too many serious technical issues and minor hiccups. They constantly intruded into whatever fun the game was trying to give me. I’ll check back later to see if things improve but for now, Malakai and Kaela are on their own.”
