How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Overall, Youngblood is a welcome reinvention of the series, but lacks the personality of what makes a Wolfenstein game. Microtransactions aren't as bad they're made out, but it is still understandably going to impact each person differently. The extensive replay incentive and a charming, albeit short, story are appreciated. If you are a Wolfenstein enthusiast, this game definitely deserves at least one playthrough, just make sure you won't have any interruptions during your sessions.”

“Wolfenstein: Youngblood is great action game with awesome graphics, decent set of weapons, huge bosses and good shooter mechanics. Levels have become wider and now there's even more nonlinearity, however the project suffers from a weak plot, repetitive random side-quests and character' level constraints. If you liked the previous games in the series or you are a fan of the genre, ready to put up with new problems, you can try. Especially since Youngblood is sold at a price twice lower than the usual release.”

“Wolfenstein: Youngblood is not a bad game. It undeniably is a Wolfenstein from Machine Games and Arkane Studios so it does hit the AAA qualities in terms of gameplay and leveldesign. It surely isn't a good game though with new semi-open world and RPG mechanics clashing against each other and a weak story padded wih repetetive fodder. You might want to grab this one if you are after an OK mindless shooter for coop nazi killing. If you are looking for a Wolfenstein title to play solo, feel free to skip this one.”

“Shallow, samey and unneeded. Youngblood is a huge letdown because of how blatantly it doesn't respect your time and money.”

“It experiments with all the weakest parts of the series and ties them together with a new, tedious progression system.”

“Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a hilarious game set in the alternate world of Wolfenstein. The Nazi Paris of the 80's is really hilarious, you can see the attention to precision and detail. However, the gameplay suffers heavily under the AI and is primarily focused on playing with another live player. Overall, this is an average title that tries to get the most out of the world of Wolfenstein and set it in a modern gameplay setting.”

“Enjoyable, but not as engaging as previous entries, Wolfenstein: Youngblood does a good job of attempting to branch the series out from its trademark style.”

“Youngblood feels like a weird mishmash of two clearly distinct design principles, the open-ended approach by Arkane and the linear and often action fueled sequences by MachineGames. The end result is a lesser game, devoid of soul and interesting mechanics.”

“A few fun moments is too little to even say that I had fun. Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a bizarre hybrid, a rail shooter with grind and endgame reminiscent of open-world games. An RPG looter-shooter without loot or real rewards. The game fails to be good at any single element it offers, and a ton of games out there is better at all of them.”

“Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a stylish detour that allows the series to safely explore some new directions while setting the scene before the next game. But it's not taking the risks where it really counts. In an era where right-wing extremism is an increasing threat, and the line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred, the visible politics of Wolfenstein can't shoulder the weight of the game alone.”

“While I can appreciate that Machine Games may have wanted to push the envelope and try something new with a series they’ve been hard at work on for years, I think they may have pushed the boat a little too far all at once. This is a very different Wolfenstein experience, and while it’s not bad, it’s certainly not what I’d expected from them based on the history of the series and the pre-release previews of the game. I’m still very much interested in seeing where they take the Wolfenstein franchise from here though.”
