How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Hades 2 is an extremely successful sequel to the cult game. Both the seasoned pros and those new to Supergiant games are going to have a blast with it.”

“In all honesty, I wasn’t sure if Supergiant could make a sequel that did such an impressive game as Hades justice. I had doubts that any developer could match such an insurmountable creation. Hades II isn’t more than a match, but it's absolutely worthy of standing alongside it.”

“Hades II is the perfect sequel. It retains all the best elements of the original and improves on them, while adding more content, storyline, and expanding the entire universe. Once you get caught up in the loop of trying to defeat Chronos, it's very hard to break free. However, I hope that Supergiant Games will end this wonderful series in the form of a complete trilogy, because these stories definitely deserve it.”

“Hades II succeeded in surpassing the legacy of the first part to prove itself as one of the best and most complete Roguelike gaming experiences in history. The game offers a mature epic story and a massive, diverse world that expands in two different paths, alongside carefully written characters and a stunning artistic direction accompanied by great music that escalates with every hit to increase immersion. With a perfect gameplay style, it offers a high-speed combat system, supported by a great variety of abilities, giving players infinite freedom. This mixture is completed with the high challenge of bosses and the renewal of enemies in every area, creating a perfect and highly addictive Gameplay Loop, making every attempt a unique adventure.”

“Hades II is a stunning roguelike package. The game takes everything that worked in Hades and dials it up to eleven. Even after dozens of hours, it continues to surprise and delight in equal measure. This is a thrilling, endlessly replayable sequel that cements Supergiant’s reputation as one of the best studios in the industry, delivering one of 2025’s defining games.”

“Surpassing the first Hades game may seem like a Sisyphean labour. And yet, Supergiant Games managed to make Hades II even more captivating, deeper, and sincere than a god-like first part.”

“Melinoë, however, can make it to the top of Olympus. But when she does, unease gnaws at her triumph. The gods commend her bravery and skill. They deny having ever doubted her. Then, with their young relative’s purpose fulfilled, if only temporarily, they nudge her back to her home between planes, where she diligently returns to her labors. Would that Melinoë, at some point in her long quest to fell Chronos, stopped to wonder: What comes after time and death?”

“Hades II is a phenomenon that proves lightning can strike the same spot twice, and the second time with even greater and more devastating spectacle. Although I initially had a bit of trouble getting used to the new, more methodical pace, and the damn collectible grind occasionally annoyed me, the overall experience is so stunning that any negatives quickly fade into the background. The developers have created an unforgettable adventure that honors its roots but isn’t afraid to take risks and add complex layers we never even dreamed of in the first game. Go play, the Underworld is waiting for you!”

“Supergiant Games is five-for-five with Hades II, a huge, triumphant sequel that manages to diverge mechanically and offer more challenges and variety than its predecessor. It helps that it's nearly faultless on Switch 2 in particular.Sometimes there's a bit too much going on, and in shooting for a bigger, more tragic story, I think it's lost a bit of heart. But, quite frankly, I don't want time to stop because if it does, I won't be able to play Hades II anymore.”

“Hades 2 commands the polish of a full release in early access, and I can’t fathom how good version 1.0 will be.”

“Because in these races, it doesn't matter what color medal you receive at the finish line. What matters is that you ran, that you finished, and that you want to run again. And then ten, twenty... and back again.”
